- Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala shares his ideas to Kenyan footballers on focusing on investment beyond professional football.
The legendary winger became a household name worldwide after he burst through the Mexico defence and netted in the 2010 world cup.
He took the time to share his investment knowledge with Kenyan footballers during an interview with K24’s Caren Kibet.
“Start planning for life after football immediately you turn professional. Our careers are short-lived and the money we make cannot sustain you after retirement.” Tshabalala said.
“We also do not enjoy pension thus the need to start planning for life after football immediately you start turning professional. It is also important to empower ourselves with education. Do a lot of research on investment options,” explained the winger.
“Association is also important. People will want to be associated with you at the peak of your career so use that to your advantage. Knock doors, send emails, and do what you can to achieve your goals.” He added.
Former Bafana playmaker has an inspiring story to share in his investment journey. He ventured into the business world for the first time in June 2011.
His first experience was terrible as the business failed and suffered a financial loss. Luckily, he treated it as a learning experience and focused on new investments.
The talented winger’s investment journey has been a daring adventure. He recently launched a children’s book titled ‘Super Shabba’, this is a unique business for a renowned footballer.
His book entails the narration of a young boy who overcame numerous challenges to score the most important goal in the world cup and become a superhero. He uses his own story to nature young talent.
“This is a book aimed at encouraging the African child to dream big and believe that they can achieve anything regardless of their background.” He expounded.
