- European champions Liverpool have interested in signing Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to Serie A expert Chloe Beresford he would be ideal for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The Croatia international’s playmaking skills were again noteworthy this campaign under Antonio Conte. This season has he has scored three goals and provided five assists. He has made 32 appearances across all competitions to date.
Chloe Beresford, a Serie A expert, takes us through Brozovic’s journey and his major improvements under Conte this season.
“Brozovic’s role has been adapted a little bit under Inter’s previous manager, Luciano Spalletti,” Beresford said.
“Spalletti came up with the idea of dropping him deeper in the midfield – more of a holding player, but more as a playmaker. Brozovic was an average midfielder before that but now he is the lynchpin in the way Inter work. He is tough and protects the defense really well, but his distribution is really accurate.” She explained
” Chelsea’s Jorginho played a similar role for Napoli – the midfield metronome that keeps everything ticking. He is tougher than that and he has that mindset of being able to win the ball back and then recover and play an accurate pass – everything goes through him,” she added.
The 27-year-old has a contract with Inter until the end of the 2021/22 season. He has a release clause of £53m, Inter Milan wishes to increase his clause and give him a two-year contract extension until 2024.
Barcelona has also expressed interest in the midfielder but Beresford maintains Liverpool would be a perfect destination for him.
“I think English football would be best if he was to move away because he has that approach that would work quite well in England. He is no-nonsense, but he is also talented and has scored some decent goals.” Beresford commented.
“With the way that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp play, he would be someone who could really fit well into that system. He would certainly be worth a decent sum of money.” She added.
