The final matchday of La Liga this weekend is not only decisive for the league leader, Atletico Madrid, but also for their last opponent, Real Valladolid. Diego Simeone’s men must win to secure three points here to seal the title while Sergio Guardiola and Co are in need of the same maximum point for safety plus hoping that their nearby contenders, Elche and Huesca stumble.
Both teams’ previous matches
Real Valladolid suffered another loss on the road last weekend while travelling to Sociedad. They were hammered by Real Sociedad 1-4. Alexander Isak netted a brace followed by David Silva’s strike and Adnan Januzaj’s penalty. They could only respond once through Marcos de Souza’s header.
Atletico, on the other hand, had to struggle to win at home while welcoming Osasuna. They were one goal behind as the Croatian international Ante Budimir’s header went pass the goal line despite Jan Oblak’s safe. Los Rojiblancos had to wait till the last ten minutes to equalise by Renan Lodi’s striker plus the winning goal as Luis Suarez slotted home.
Sergio Gonzalez shall consider opting for 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 against Atletico here. Judging from their last outing when Luis Suarez and Co was almost frustrated to break the deadlock. The absence of Fabian Orellana, plus R Carnero will not impact too much of his starting XI. The Israeli Shon Weissmann shall be featuring as the targetman accompanied by Oscar Plano.
Meanwhile, Diego Simeone is likely to deploy 4-3-3 again to focus on scoring. Luis Suarez is playing alongside Angel Correa and Joao Felix upfront. The only name on the sideline is the former Monaco man, Thomas Lemar.
Players to watch
Oscar Plano is one of the key man in Valladolid. He has bagged four goals and made five assists. Some other notable names are Shon Weismann who has netted six goals and provided one assist and Lucas Olaza.
Atletico will be relying on the former Barcelona man Luis Suarez contributing 20 goals and 3 assist to break the deadlock with his experience and composure. Some other key figures this season are Marcos Llorente and Angelo Correa. They both have scored 20 goals and provided 19 assists combined.
Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Los Rojiblancos will have to score as soon as possible to avoid getting frustrated while facing layered defence wall from Lucas Olaza and Co. The home side is more likely to employ the defensive formation with counter attack. The major concerns on Sergio Gonzalez’s side is the lack of clinical finish at the front as well as the solidity at the back. A narrow win again for Diego Simeone’s men.
