Uruguay’s form has been improving after their defeat from Argentina. They could finish on the second in group A. Luis Suarez and Co will be taking on Colombia which excludes some of their stars for this Copa America edition such as James Rodriguez, Jeison Murillo and Radamel Falcao. However, their squad has been aging and this could be a tough task despite the fact that Reinaldo Rueda’s men has not been in-form so far. The match will take place in Estadio Mane Garrincha, Brasilia.
Both teams’ previous games
Uruguay secured a narrow win over Paraguay in the final game of the group stage. Their winning goal was scored by Edison Cavani’s penalty. It was enough to bump up their position to the second.
Colombia had to suffer a 1-2 defeat while taking on the host Brasil. Luis Diaz’s overhead kick gave them the lead but Tite’s men could make a comeback in the last twelve minutes of the game as Roberto Firmino’s striker and Casemiro’s header overturned the score sheet.
Oscar Tabarez is still in favour of 4-4-2 with Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez as the duo frontmen. In the midfield, Mathias Vecino and Rodrigo Bentacur will be accompanied by Federico Valverde and Nahitan Nandez. Giorgian de Arrascaeta shall be brought on to break the deadlock at the second half.
Meanwhile, the former Chile boss, Reinaldo Rueda might be employing the similar formation with Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel or Miguel Borja featuring upfront. Juventus man Juan Cuadrado will be operating on the right flank. In the midfield, Mathias Uribe and Erwin Cardona will be accompanied by Luis Diaz who could offer the width on the left side of pitch.
Players to watch
Two veteran strikers, Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez are still the lethal figures on the front. The former has scored two goals in the tournament. Some other notable names to watch are Jose Gimenez, Rodrigo Bentacur, Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and Cagliari man Nahitan Nandez.
FC Porto winger Luiz Diaz, is one of the expected key figures in the squad. His superb goal against Brasil was one of his contributions. Some other vital names to watch are Everton defender Yerry Mina and two Atalanta duo, Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata.
Uruguay vs Colombia Prediction
The clash of two teams which are expected to stun the punters in the tournament might not be as exciting as expected. Their low scoring results during the group stage and aging forwards could lead to the lack of goals again in this fixture. The match might end in a stalemate and Uruguay could go through if it is decided through penalties.
Oscar Tabarez’ side is still the slight favourite here. Their win market is at 3/2, while the value for a draw is at 2/1, which is the highest, whereas Colombia is backed to win at 33/13.
