Spurs and Manchester United are squaring off this weekend for improving their campaign. Jose Mourinho side is looking for the top four finish, which is still very likely considering the fact that there are still eight games ahead and their points are just four points below West Ham, currently sitting on the fourth. For United, this game would be more about sealing the runner up post as well as getting away from Leicester’s threat as toppling Manchester City on the top is simply impossible.
The teams’ previous matches
Tottenham was unable to protect their lead last weekend while travelling to the north in St.James Prk. Tottenham already had 2-1 lead from Harry Kane’s brace and after conceding by Joelinton at/ the foist half. Unfortunately, their prospective win was denied by Joe Wilock’s in 85th minute.
Manchester United seems unstoppable in Europa League in the midweek. They smashed Granada 2-0 on the road by Marcus Rashford’s goal and Bruno Fernandes’s penalty. Previously last weekend, they secured a 2-1 win over Brighton. It is enough to keep their runner-up position as well as avoid Leicester or West Ham’s threat below.
Jose Mourinho is still likely to deploy the 4-4-2 formation with Harry Kane leading the attack accompanied by Son Heung Min. On both wings, Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale will be supporting them. Mourinho’s slight concern is the backline since Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty, Toby Alderweireld and Ben Davies are all ruled out here. This means only Eric Dier and Joe Rodon or Davison Sanchez are their option for the center back, while the wing back posts will be given to Sergi Reguilon and Japhet Tanganga.
Ole Solskjaer is still in favour of 4-2-3-1 formation but Anthony Martial, Eric Baily and Phil Jones are sidelined due to their injury. It would not worry Solskjaer’s much as the squad has more than enough to cover Martial’s absence. Edison Cavani is likely to get a nod for the targetman role supported by Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood as usual.
Players to watch
The English skipper, Harry Kane remains the main scorer of the team with nineteen goals and thirteen assists in Premier League this season. Some other key figures to watch are Tanguy Ndombele registering three goals and two assists, and Kane’s partner in front, Son Heing Min.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have been dominant in their contribution this season. Some other notable names to watch here are the skipper Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw with one goal and five assists so far.
Tottenham vs Manchester United Prediction
It is always tricky to face off the team one used to lead. Yet, for Jose Mourinho, such should mean nothing. In fact, it could motivate them to clinch three points although such certainly would not be easy. United has less missing players than Spurs. A draw seems to be more plausible for them.
