Preview and Prediction
Two Spanish clubs in the Champions league this season, Sevilla and the defending Champions, Real Madrid will be squaring off this weekend. It is a decisive game for both but the bigger pressure will be on the visitor’s side. Zinedine Zidane’s men have been winless in the past two games consecutively in La Liga. What’s worse, they also suffered another defeat in the midweek which put their European campaign in jeopardy. Sevilla should be taking this opportunity to seal a win for their own sake.
Both teams’ previous games
Sevilla was lacklustre in their last outing of Champions league and hammered 0-4 by Chelsea. The Frenchman Olivier Giroud was the star of the game by netting the entire goals in the match.
Real Madrid also had the same result. They had a heavy loss while travelling to Kiev to take on Shakhtar Donestk. Detinho and Manor Solomon bagged the winning goals for the home side while Los Blancos wasted at least two chances by Marco Asencio. They are now on the verge of UCL exit.
Julen Lopetegui is likely to employ his favourite 4-3-3. Yet, his attacking line has not been as promising as last season, especially their Argentine winger Lucas Ocampos. He will still be featuring on the front alongside Luuk de Jong and Munir El-Haddadi or Youssuf En–Nesyri. The only names on the sideline are Jose Suso and Ousamane Idrissi.
Zinedine Zidane is looking to bounce back here and the option of deploying 4-2-3-1 is still doable but in need of a slight change. He could consider playing Benzema and Mariano Diaz together where the Frenchman can occupy number ten role and Mariano as the target man. On both flanks, Marco Asencio and Vinicius Junior are the best ones to operate there.Unfortunately, they will be lacking of options from the bench as Federico Valverde, Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic are ruled out due to their injuries.
Players to watch
Sevilla’s top scorer last season, Lucas Ocampos is still the key man in the team but he has only scored one and provided two assists. Another vital figure of the team is Jules Kunde
The 32-year old forward Karim Benzema is still the top performer this season with four goals and three assist in La Liga. Another notable name to watch is the youngster Vinicius Junior who has bagged three goals in all competitions.
Sevilla vs Real Madrid Prediction
Julen Lopetegui’s man should be hopeful but also careful with wounded Madrid. Zidane’s future is on the brink after their results lately. However, their aging key men could also expose their flaws. In short, Sevilla should be able to win if Lucas Ocampos, Munir El Haddadi and Luke de Jong are in their peak form. Otherwise, a draw seems a fairer result.
