Real Madrid vs Villareal Preview and Prediction: La Liga Match on 16.07.2020

Preview and Prediction

Los Blancos are on the edge of glory this season. La Liga title is only one step away and all they need is to secure three points here while hosting Villareal this midweek.. Such is not hard to do at all for Zidane’s men who have won nine times in a row. It will be a perfect time for them to celebrate their 34th title at home after failing two seasons consecutively.

Both teams’ previous matches

Real Madrid’s series of win endured last weekend while visiting Granada. They dismantled the host 2-1 by Ferland Mendy’s and Karim Benzema’s goal. Granada could only respond once from Darwin Machis despite dominating the game in the second half. Luckily, Thibault Cortois and Sergio Ramos were in their good form and able to deny a number of decent chances from Antonio Puertas and Co.

Villareal, on the other hand, had a contrastive result last weekend while hosting Real Sociedad. The absence of Paco Alcacer and Gerardo Moreno really gave an impact on their attack and eventually they suffered a 1-2 loss. William Jose and Diego Llorente found the back of their net through a header each before Santi Cazorla scored a consolation goal.

Possible tactics

Zinedine Zidane often opts for 4-3-3 with the various transitions to 4-3-1-2, 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1. Benzema is still the main scorer. He is likely to be accompanied by either Vinicius Junior or Rodrygo instead of James Rodriguez, the demotivated Gareth Bale and the unimpressive Hazard. On the sideline, Marcelo, Nacho and Mariano Diaz are ruled out for their injuries while Luka Jovic is suspended for in disciplinary issue.

Javier Calleja tends to deploy 4-2-3-1 with the transition to 4-3-3 formation or 4-4-2 as in the previous game. Gerardo Moreno shall be fit to return as the targetman, but not yet for Carlos Bacca, Ramiro Funes Mori and Ramiro Guerra. Paco Alcacer is still doubtful to be brought as the reserved man this midweek. Thus, the most possible formation for them against Madrid is 4-5-1. Gerardo Moreno is the lone striker while Samuel Chukueze will be playing wide along with Moi Gomez, whereas Santi Cazorla will be positioned rather deep to close down Madrid’s attacking lines.

Players to watch

The injury of Marcelo can be a blessing in disguise for Ferland Mendy. He has been given a role for the taking the left wing back. He scored his first La Liga goal last week and provided two assists. Another figure to watch is Casemiro. This Brasilian international has been integral part of Zidane’s best starting IX.

In Villareal, the Spanish international Gerrard Moreno will always be the key man of the game and the most expected figure to shine. However, he is not the only one. Some other names who might steal the spotlight are Samuel Chukuweze and Moi Gomez.

Real Madrid vs Villareal Prediction

The Yellow Submarine’s chance to secure three points or even one point is simply tougher than it should be. The home side has been in-form and consistent since the lockdown. Sergio Ramos and Co are bound to clinch their important three points to here in Alfedo Di Stefano stadium.

Betting Odds

El Real is the defnite favourite. they are backed to win at 1.72m. Santi Cazorla and Co are only priced to win at 7.00, whereas the odds for draw result are at 4.90.
