Los Blancos is officially the public enemy in European Super League issue. Thanks to the arrogance of Florentino Perez who still sticks to his so-called ‘idea to save football’. No wonder that the other Spanish teams will be more motivated than ever to challenge and beat them, including their next opponent Real Betis, which is still eyeing for European spot next season. This will be clash of the rich and the laymen.
Both teams’ previous games
Real Madrid had a fairly easy win over Cadiz last midweek as they trashed them 3-0 on the road. Karim Benzema’s brace and Alvaro Odriozola’s goal made the difference in this game and keep them on the second of the table.
Meanwhile, Betis were held again at home consecutively. After a draw against Valencia on the weekend, Manuel Pellegrini’s side could only muster a goalless draw while hosting Bilbao in the midweek. It is their fourth draw in a row.
Zinedine Zidane who remains silent on ESL issue will have to change the formation to 3-4-3 considering the mounting list of names in their injury table. There are Sergio Ramos, Ferland Mendy, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Lucas Vasquez and Federico Valverde on the sideline. Thus, the backline will be covered by Raphael Varane, Eder Militao and Alvaro Odriozola or Nacho. In the midfield, Marcelo and Dani Carvajal are playing wide while Casemiro and Isco will be in the middle. Karim Benzema will still be leading the attack as usual accompanied by Vinicius Junior and Marco Asencio.
Manuel Pellegrini, who once was at the helm of Los Merengues back in the last decade, has always been in favour of 4-2-3-1 formation. Borja Iglesias is back on the line up as the targetman. He will gain support from Nabil Fekir, Christian Tello and Sergio Canales.
Players to watch
Karim Benzema is still the main scorer in Real Madrid with nineteen goals and six assists in La Liga this season. Some other notable names to watch are Casemiro contributing five goals and two assists and the goalie, Thibault Cortois.
The former Lyon man, Nabil Fekir is Betis’ top performer this season. He has scored only four goals but provided five assists. Some other key names to watch are Sergio Canales with eight goals and six assists, the former Fiorentian man, Christian Tello plus the wing back co-owned by Barcelona, Emerson.
Real Madrid vs Betis Prediction
Despite the injury of their key men and the pressure on European Super League issue, Real Madrid remains the stronger side. Karim Benzema and Co will come out as a winner without any difficulties although it will not be in a big score, unless Betis could take a lesson from Getafe which managed to hold them in a goalless draw.
