Preview and Prediction
One of the classic matches in the Champions League is on the clock this midweek. The record holder with 13 titles, Real Madrid and the winner of 1964, 1965 and 2010 edition are squaring off in Estadio Alfredo di Stefano. Both teams are aiming for the crucial points after their disappointing form in the first two games, in which they have not been able to pick up a single win. This meeting, in fact, can be a turning point for either of them who can seal three points.
The teams’ previous games
Los Blancos had an easy game last weekend and smashed Huesca 4-1 at home. Eden Hazard marked his return with a stunning opener and followed by Benzema’s positive form. The Frenchman bagged a brace and provided an assist for Federico Valverde. The visiting team could only respond once by David Ferreiro. Such result has lifted them to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, La Beniamata failed to win again last weekend while hosting Parma. They were held in a 2-2 draw. Conte’s men were even two goals behind as Gervinho netted a brace. Fortunately, their Croatian connection saved them from their second loss this season. Marcelo Brozovic slotted it home first at the bottom left corner and Ivan Perisic opened his account this season with the late equaliser.
Zinedine Zidane still opts for 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 formation. The return of Eden Hazard should bring more confidence in the team. The Belgium international will be featuring as the front three alongside Karim Benzema and Marco Asencio or Vinicius Junior. The only names on the injury table are Martin Odegaard and the right back Dani Carvajal. Lucas Vasquez can be deputised for the latter’s position.
His counterpart and former team mate in Juventus, Antonio Conte, might need to consider modifying his regular 3-5-2 formation to 3-4-3, as he once deployed during his time in Chelsea. Since Romelu Lukaku is ruled out due to his injury along with Alexis Sanchez and Martin Skriniar, Lautaro Martinez will occupy the targetman role while Christian Eriksen and Ivan Perisic or Ashley Young can be the wide attackers.
Players to watch
The former Chelsea man, Eden Hazard, is expected to perform his best here, which should be doable as he is familiar with the defence system of his former boss in Chelsea, Antonio Conte. Some other notable names to watch are Federico Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Marco Asencio.
In Inter, Achraf Hakimi will be having a reunion with his former club, Real Madrid. Unfortunately, he was unable to impress Zidane to keep him in the squad after a season on loan in Dortmund. This could be the chance to prove that he deserves to be in Madrid’s main starting IX. Some other key figures to focus here are Lautaro Martinez and Nico Barella.
Real Madrid vs Inter Prediction
This is the game for the first victory for both sides as they have only collected less than three points from the possible six. Sergio Ramos and Co might have a better chance to seal a win considering their home advantage and more consistent form than Inter Milan, which are still struggling in their domestic campaign. A narrow win for Zidane’s men is bound to happen.
As the slight favourite on the paper, Real Madrid is backed to win at 19/20, whereas Samir Handanovic and Co are only priced to win at 31/10. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 31/10.
