Preview and Prediction
Los Blancos’ campaign this season has not been what they expected. Despite still being in the title race, they are sloping to the third of the table and have to hand over the runner up position to their archrival, which has better aggregate besides collecting the same points. Karim Benzema and Co will have to continue picking up three points in every remaining game, including this midweek’s fixture when they welcome Getafe. Pepe Bordalas’ men are are still stuck in the mid lower table.
Both teams’ previous games
Real Madrid was struggling to snatch three points while travelling to Huesca last weekend. They got past the home side 2-1. Huesca took the lead first by Javi Galan before Raphael Varane’s brace turned thing around. It was important win to level their points with Barcelona.
Getafe, on the other hand, slumped to a disappointing 0-3 defeat while taking on Sevilla on the weekend. Munir El Haddadi’s, Papu Gomez’s and Youssuf En-Neysiri’s goals made the difference in the game.
Zinedine Zidane is still in favour of 4-3-3 formation. Yet, a number of the names are on the injury table which might impact their starting IX. Those who are sidelined include Sergio Ramos, Eden Hazard (again), Isco, Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, Rodrygo and Lucas Vasquez. Thus, Marco Asencio and Vinicius Junior are the only option left to accompany Karim Benzema upfront whereas Alvaro Odriozola should still be covering Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez.
Meanwhile, Pepe Bordalas needs to consider deploying the 5-4-1 to pile up the players in the defence line and lure Karim Benzema and Co to attack and left some space at their backline. Relying on swift counter attack could be worth doing with Carles Alena and Marc Cucurella to anchor the build-up. Cucho Hernandez is likely to be the targetman with Angel Rodriguez as the back up who can come off the bench and help breaking the deadlock by transforming the formation to 5-3-2 if necessary.
Players to watch
The Frenchman, Karim Benzema, is still the key man on the front. He is also the top scorer with ten goals and five assists. Some other notable names to watch are Toni Kroos, the top assist provider, Luka Modric who still manages to score three goals and made two assists despite being 35 years old already and Marco Asencio who has notched up two goals and assists each.
Getafe’s top performers this season are the Uruguayan defensive midfielder, Mauro Arambarri and two La Masia products, Marc Cucurella with three goals and one assist and Carles Alena who has registered two assists since his loan spell started last month.
Real Madrid vs Getafe Prediction
It should not be difficult for the home side to secure another three points here, especially considering Getafe’s winless run in the past three matches. However, the victory will not be big since it is most likely that Benzema again or Asencio who would be the scoring the decisive goals. A definite narrow win for Zidane’s men is still more likely.
The punters still take side on the reigning champions. Real Madrid is priced to win at 7/12, whereas Marco Arambari and Co are backed to win at 32/5. The odds for the draw result are at 16/5.
