RB Leipzig is currently on their negative trend. They have been scoreless in the past two games starting from the heavy loss in Manchester on match day two of Champions League last week. Yet, another tough task is waiting this midweek as they will be playing host to PSG. It is another encounter of them after the UCL semi final last season in Lisbon. Julian Nagelsmann will be welcoming Thomas Tuchel’s return on German soil this season with a hope of a much better result than the last time.
The teams’ previous games
Yusuf Poulsen and Co had to suffer another defeat in a week after losing 0-1 from Gladbach on the road last weekend. A single winning goal from the home side was ironically scored by one of their players on loan in Borussia Park, Hannes Wolf. Such result forced them to step down from the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, PSG secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Nantes in Stade La Beaujoure. Andre Herrera, Kylian Mbappe and Pablo Sarabia tucked away the ball into the net. This is the perfect one to prepare their European campaign on Tuesday despite missing out some key players on the pitch.
Julian Nagelsmann needs to employ a more effective tactics to help them return to their winning ways. After the failure of 4-3-1-2 in the weekend, he could opt for 4-4-1-1 with the transition to 4-3-3. As Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halsterberg are ruled out due to their injury, Dayot Upamecano will be commanding their defence accompanied with Willi Orban while Benjamin Heinrich and Angelino are operating as full backs. In the midfield, the absence of Konrad Lainer can be replaced by Tyler Adams plus Marcel Sabitzer, Kevin Kampl and Justin Kluivert will have to keep balance on defence and offence. On the front, Dani Olmo is supporting either Emile Forsberg or Yusuf Poulsen as the targetman or false nine.
Meanwhile, PSG has more names on the sideline for this fixture due to the injury, including Marco Verrati, Neymar, Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler, Leandro Paredes and Juan Bernat. Yet, Thomas Tuchel still has more than enough players to cover them in the squad. He might still be deploying 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. Moise Kean, Kylian Mbappe and Pablo Sarabia are the best option upfront while in the midfield, Rafinha, Danilo Perreira and Ander Herrera or Idrissa Gueye can occupy the area.
Players to watch
Leipzig’s new forward signings have not been satisfying yet as Alexander Sorloth and Hwang Hee Chan. They both have only contributed one assist so far. Thus, Nagelsmann shall turn to Emile Forsberg and Yusuf Poulsen to be the main scorer. Another notable name to watch is Angelino.
In PSG, Kylian Mbappe is the current star. He has netted seven goals and provided six assists. Some other key figures of the team are the two Italians, Moise Kean and Alessandro Florenzi.
Leipzig vs PSG Prediction
Nagelsmann’s men might have the home advantage but that does not help much if their confidence is still low. Only a win would lift it up but sadly their main flaw this season is the attacking side while Le Parisien is more superior on that plus slightly more solid defence. Overall, the three point is likely to go to the visitors here.
Tuchel’s men are the slight favourite here with their win market is at 5/4, whereas RB Leipzig is only backed to win at 12/5. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 29/10.
