Preview and Prediction
Manchester United was one of the teams who made important last minute signings such as Edison Cavani, Alex Telles and Amad Diallo before the international break. However, such attempts have been seen as a panic buying by some punters, especially after their humiliating defeat in the previous game. This weekend will be their return to Premier League fixture when they are facing off The Magpies on the road. It seems to be a perfect moment for Solksjaer’s men to prove that those new signings could make the difference for their campaign this season.
Both teams’ previous games
Newcastle United secured another win at home two weeks ago. They thumped Burnley 3-1. Alain Saint-Maximin was the man of the match by scoring an opener and provided an assist for Callum Wilson. The former Bournemouth striker finally extended their lead through his penalty. The Clarets unfortunately could not keep the score on level terms till the final whistle despite finding an equaliser by Ashley Westwood’s long strike.
Meanwhile, The Red Devils were hammered by Tottenham 1-6 before the international break. Bruno Fernandes’s successful penalty seemed like a good start. However, it went the opposite as Tanguy Ndombele netted an equaliser; Son Houng Min bagged a brace and Anthony Martial was sent off. They eventually became hapless as Harry Kane’s brace and Serge Aurier completed their 6-1 win.
The former Manchester United captain, Steve Bruce seems to be confident in deploying 4-4-2 formation. Yet, he might be unable to play his best starting line up as the crisis in the squad due to the injury of some key players such as Matt Richie, Martin Dubravka, Miguel Almiron, Dwight Gayle, Jamal Lescelles, Ciaran Clark, De Andre Yedlin and possibly Alain Saint-Maximin. Callum Wilson and Joelinton shall feature at the front. In the midfield, Jonjo Shelvey, Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser plus Christian Atsu will be supporting them.
Ole Solskjaer needs to consider deploying a new formation, especially with some new signings on their side. 3-4-2-1 seems to be a good choice at the moment. With the suspension of Anthony Martial, Edison Cavani could earn his spot as the main frontman while Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford occupy the attacking midfielder role. In the midfield, Danny Van de Beek and Nemanja Matic or Scott McTominay shall get a nod in the starting IX accompanied by Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw who play out wide.
Players to watch
Newcastle’s new signings this season, Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick seems to be tuning in easily with Steve Bruce’s system. The former has bagged four goals while the latter has notched one and each has provided one assist. Another notable name to watch is Jonjo Shelvey.
Solskjaer might be counting on Marcus Rashford here plus Bruno Fernandes who could be brought on from the bench at the second half. What he hope would happen here is the instant positive impact of Edison Cavani’s presence on their attack.
Newcastle vs Man United Prediction
The game might be in favour of The Red Devils on the paper but considering their previous results, The Toon Army could take the advantage of their opponent’s low level of confidence. Nevertheless, if Paul Pogba and Co could respond better here, both teams are likely to share the spoil in a draw.
The punters seem to be backing on neither side. Solskjaer’s men are backed to win at 9/13, whereas Jonjo Shelvey and Co’s win market is only at 17/4. The draw result is at the value of 13/4.
