Preview and Prediction
The Reds have been quite lucky with Leicester’s failure to secure maximum six points in their last two outings, which made them unable to topple them. This midweek, they shall pick up three points in their next fixture while taking on Newcastle on the road to extend their advantage from their contenders. It is supposedly relatively easy task for The Reds, especially considering their lack of fresh legs at the moment due to the covid-19.
The teams’ previous games
The Magpies were still unable to display a convincing form while taking on high profile teams as Manchester City last weekend. They were beaten 0-2. Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres scored the winning goal for the visitors.
Mo Salah and Co were stunned by WBA last weekend and could only muster a 1-1 draw. Sadio Mane’s goal was eventually equalised by Semi Ajayi. They were unable to materialise the series of decent chances.
Possible tactic
Steve Bruce might have to optimise the available names in the squad with the lines of players ruled out due to the injury and covid-19 case and is likely to deploy 5-4-1 or 5-3-2. Joelinton and Callum Wilson are still featuring the frontman duo. Isaac Hayden, Matt Richie and Sean Longstaff would be overcrowding the midfield area to close down The Reds’ attack as well as build up the counter attack.
Jurgen Klopp will still be opting for 4-3-3, but he might be resting one of their tridents to play Takumi Minamino or Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain as Diogo Jota is still injured. There are at least seven more names on the injury table including Virgil Van Dijk, Naby Keita, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
Players to watch
Newcastle’s new signing, Callum Wilson, has proven himself a worthy forward for the Toon Arrmy. He has bagged eight goals and provided three assists. Another notable name to watch is the goalie Karl Darlow, who has been taking over Martin Dubravka’s role between the sticks this season.
In Liverpool, Mo Salah is still dangerous this season as he has netted thirteen goals and provided three assists in Premier League. His Senegalese duet, Sadio Mane is the second top performers of the club with six goals and two assists. The top assists provider is the Scotland international, Andrew Robertson with five assists so far.
Newcastle United vs Liverpool Prediction
Callum Wilson and Co would find a difficulty to snatch three points here considering Liverpool’s ambition to extend their lead in the standings. Their inconsistency is also another issue Steve Bruce needs to cope this season despite playing at their home turf. A narrow win could be captured by Klopp’s men here.
Betting odds
The visitors’ odds to win are at 10/29, whereas the home side’s win market is at 10/1, which is not so much different. The draw result, however, is at the value of 26/5.
