Rossonerri’s campaign suddenly turns into disaster lately. They have switched from the league leaders to struggling team for top four finish. They are now sitting on the fifth collecting 66 points, which is the same as Juventus and Napoli, and could slump to the sixth and lose the chance to return to the Champions League next season, if they are not back to winning ways yet. This weekend is their best chance to do so while hosting Benevento, which is struggling to avoid relegation and sitting on the 18th.
The teams’ previous matches
AC Milan suffered another loss again last weekend. This time they were hammered by Lazio 0-3 on the road. Joaquin Correa netted a brace while Ciro Immobile scored one. Without Ibrahimovic at this crucial stage of Serie A, Milan seems hapless.
Benevento was not so much different. They were crushed 2-4 at their home turf while hosting Udinese last weekend. Filippo Inzaghi’s men only scored twice by Nicolas Viola and Gianluca Lapadula while the visitors managed to bag four times through Nehuel Molina, Torgay Arslan, Jens Strgyer Larsen and Jayden Braaf.
Stefano Pioli needs to start building up his team without Ibrahimovic in the line up, who is still injured. Considering his frequent 4-2-3-1 has been easily anticipated by their opponent, the former Lazio and Fiorentina boss could deploy 4-3-1-2. Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic are the best option to feature as the front duo while Hakan Calhanoglu is the number ten. Meanwhile, in the midfield, Frank Kessie is accompanied by Rade Krunic and Jens Pieter Hauge or Sandro Tonali.
Filippo Inzaghi is in crisis as some of the key men will be ruled out for this fixture. They are Gianluca Caprari, G Letizia, Marco Sau and Alessandro Tuia. They join G Moncini, A Tello, Nicola Viola and D Foulon who are already in injured. To beat his former club, Inzaghi shall employ 5-3-2 formation. The ex Milan man, Gianluca Lapadula will be the main man upfront alongside Adolfo Gaich while Roberto Insigne is supporting behind them accompanied by Riccardo Improta and Arthur Ionita.
Players to watch
Hakan Calhanoglu is expected to lead his team as the anchorman. He has contributed three goals and eight assists so far. Some other notable name to watch are Theo Hernandez who has bagged four goals and made five assists, Frank Kessie the second club’s current top scorer with ten goals and the Croatian forward Ante Rebic.
Benevento’s top performers of the season in the remaining squad are the Polish international Kamil Glik, Lorenzo’s brother, Roberto Insigne who has scored two goals and provided four assists and Gianluca Lapadula with six goals and two assists.
Milan vs Benevento Prediction
Stefano Pioli’s men must not slip again here. There is nothing better than this weekend to end their two consecutive defeats to save their UCL hope. What could be the next concern is not conceding any goal from Benevento. They have been quite solid upfront but terrible at defending. A narrow win for Frank Kessie and Co is more possible.
