Preview and Prediction
Two German teams which are playing for the Champions League this season, Gladbach and RB Leipzig, will be squaring off for match day six of Bundesliga. Marco Rose’s men are sitting on the sixth with eight points while Leipzig is leading the standings with thirteen points. However, they had contrastive results in the midweek, which could give an impact to their confidence and form on this encounter.
The teams’ previous games
Gladbach managed to stun Madrid after holding them in a 2-2 draw last Tuesday. They even had a big chance to win over the Spanish side after Marcus Thuram bagged a brace. Yet in the last four minutes, Zidane’s men were able to equalise by Karim Benzema’s overhead kick and Casemiro’s strike. It was Gladbach’s consecutive draw against their two high profile contenders in the UCL group stage, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig suffered a shocking heavy loss in Old Trafford for another UCL fixture. Marcel Sabitzer and Co were trashed 0-5. Mason Greenwood opened th scoring at the first half. Unfortunately, they could not improve their form and even conceded more goals by Marcus Rashford’s hattrick and Anthony Martiall’s penalty
Marco Rose is likely to be deploying 4-2-3-1 as usual with the transition to 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2 formation. The French men duo, Marcus Thuram and Allesane Plea will be featuring again upfront. Lars Stindl can be given the number-ten role here. However, the options for his best starting IX will be limited since Denis Zakaria, Lazlo Benes, Mamadou Droucore, Andreas Poulsen, Valentino Lzaaro are missing out the game due to their injury.
His counterpart, Julian Nagelsmann, is expected to bounce back after such humiliating loss in UCL. Yusuf Poulsen will be leading the attack in a 3-4-2-1 formation while Dani Olmo and Emile Forsberg can take the role of attacking midfielder behind the targetman. On the injury table, there are at least seven names on the sideline, including Lukas Klostermann, Tyler Adams, Nordi Mukuiele and Kevin Kampl.
Players to watch
Apart from the French duo, Gladbach’s top performers so far is Jonas Hoffmann who has bagged three goals and provided four assists so far. Another key man to watch here is their captain Lars Stindl.
In Leipzig, the departure of Timo Werner plus the slow adaptation of his replacement, Alexandre Sorloth and Hwang Hee Chan, Nagelsmann have to rely on Denmark international Yusuf Poulsen and the full back Angelino to score. Another notable name in the squad is Dani Olmo.
Gladbach vs Leipzig Prediction
Marco Rose’s men should have the advantage here to pick up three points at home, especially considering the visitor’s possible lack of confidence after their huge defeat in the midweek. It will be mainly depending on Dayot Upemacano and Co’s respond here later. The best possible result is still a draw.
There is no clear favourite in this fixture. The host’s win market is at 21/10, whereas RB Leipzig is only backed to win at 17/13. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 11/4.
