Preview and Prediction
The Citizens are flying high. After a massive win over The Reds in the last outing, they are aiming to strengthen their position in the standings. This weekend, they will be playing host to Tottenham Hostpurs. Their positive trend shall endure to reclaim the title which was out of their hand last season. It’s Pep’s Guardiola’s first mission before making another attempts to advance further in the Champions League.
The teams’ previous matches
Manchester City captured a big win over their rival in the past three seasons, Liverpool. They hammered Jurgen Klopp’s men 4-1. The German international, Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring after his penalty was denied. Although Mo Salah equalised by his penalty, Gundogan bagged his brace followed by Raheem Sterling’s header and Phil Foden’s goal.
Tottenham returned to their winning ways after being winless in the last three games while hosting West Bromwich last weekend. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were back on the scoresheet again to end their consecutive loss.
Pep Guardiola will still be opting for 4-3-3 formation with more flexible transition to 4-1-2-1-2 or even with false nine in 4-6-0. Phil Foden is likely to get a nod at the starting IX accompanied by Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres or Riyad Mahrez. There are a number of players on the injury table, including Nathan Ake and Kevin de Bruyne.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is likely to be employing 4-2-3-1 again or 4-4-1-1 when necessary. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min will still be the frontmen while Pierre Hojbjerg and Harry Winks are operating in the middle while Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Bale are occupying on both flanks. Unfortunately, some names will have to be ruled out such as Giovanni Lo Celso, Serge Aurier and Sergi Reguilon.
Players to watch
The German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is the current top scorer with 9 goals plus one assist. Another notable name to watch is the versatile England youngster Phil Foden.
The dynamic duo Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane will be the one Mourinho relies on to break the deadlock. Both have netted 13 goals each. Another key man to focus on is the former Southampton man, Pierre Hojbjerg.
Manchester City vs Tottenham Prediction
This is the clash of Guardiola and Mourinho all over again but this seems to be the Spaniard’s best time to avenge their loss in the reverse fixture. Mourinho’s tactical approach is more predictable which could be the former Barcelona and Bayern boss’ advantage. Seemingly, another vital victory awaits The Citizens.
The match is expected to be even. However, the punters back Raheem Sterling and Co to win higher at 7/19, whereas Spurs’s win market is only at 42/5. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 5/1.
