Preview and Prediction
The Gunners’ campaign this season is still positively on course. They have progressed to next round of Carabao Cup and are sitting on the top four of the table with three wins and one loss. Of course it is still way too early to put them as one of the favourites this season. This weekend they are back on the pitch to take on Manchester City on the road. The Citizens have not been in form yet as they only captured four points in three games. It is in fact one of the most mouth watering match in Premier League after the international break.
The teams’ previous games
Kevin De Bruyne and Co were involved in a tight clash while facing off Leeds United in Elland Road. Raheem Sterling gave them the lead first at the first half but the former Valencia man, Rodrigo Moreno, scored an equaliser as he tucked away the ball into the back of the net. It was a fair result for both.
Arsenal also had to struggle while hosting Sheffield United before finally sealing a win. Bukayo Saka’s header opened the score sheet then Nicolas Pepe doubled their lead before David McGoldrick scored a lifeline.
Pep Guardiola might deploy something different to stun Mikel Arteta’s side, plus his key figures are possibly ruled out after the international fixtures. Kevin De Bryune, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Gabi Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan are doubtful for this clash. Thus, the 4-1-3-2 formation could be considerable with Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez as the double false nine who could drop off or play out wide when necessary to overload the midfield area. They are expected to help out Olexander Zichenko, Rodrigo and Bernardo Silva on employing ball possession. Meanwhile, Rodrigo or Fernandinho could be opted as the first layer of their defence.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is likely to still opt for 3-4-3 formation. Unfortunately, his line up will not be complete as Kiera Tierney, Skodran Mustafi and possibly the main scorer Pierre Aubameyang and his back up, Gabriel Martinelli are sidelined. That leaves Alexander Lacazette to occupy the targetman role while Nicolas Pepe and Willian are playing as wingers.
Players to watch
In Manchester City, Fernandinho is the only name left who could lead the team in organising the defence line. Some other notable figures to watch here are the Algerian Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.
The former Chelsea man, Willian is one of the current top performers in The Gunners’ squad. He has provided two assists. Another key man to watch is their new signing, Thomas Partey who is potentially helpful to create more solid midfield
Manchester City vs Arsenal w Prediction
Guardiola’s men are surely aiming for three points here to get their campaign back on the track but their back line’s flaw, anticipating the rumble in the box, might be something Arsenal can exploit. Yet, the game is expected to end in a draw.
Despite the probable tie, the Citizens, accoding to the punters, are the slight favourite and projected to win at 6/13, whereas Arsenal’s odds to win are at 13/2. The odds for a draw result are at 17/4.
