- Manchester City is close to reaching an agreement with Valencia in signing in the 20-year old winger Ferran Torres. The agreement will see the player switch clubs for an initial £21m (€23m) with a possibility of considerable add-on payments that would increase the final figure by another £10.5m (€12m).
After attracting attention from a host of top European club for his awesome performances in La Liga and for Spain at youth level.,Torres was identified as a player that can help fill the void left by Leroy Sane after he did leave for Bayern Munich.
Torres would become the first major signing of the transfer window for the blues if the deal comes to completion. Pep Guardiola also has hope to add at least one centre-back to his squad having seen his team suffer over the past year from the failure to replace Vincent Kompany and a serious injury to Aymeric Laporte.
Txiki Begiristain has warned that the Champions League mini-tournament set for August could restrict the duration City have to act in the market, but still expects to be able to carry out the necessary improvement to the squad in order to set the club up to challenge again next season.
“We are working a lot, we have to be ready,” he told. “It will be a strange window because people have to move fast, we have to bring players who can improve our squad but also it means that maybe someone can leave.”
“It will be strange also because we have the Champions League so we have to wait to move forward until the Champions League is finished. We might have less time than ever but we’ll have time to make the changes we need to improve the squad.
