Preview and Prediction
The battle of the old rivals of Premier League this season is no longer for formality or about pride but for something more prestigious. It is all about the title race, something that they were last involved in 2009/10 season. The reigning Champion is sitting on the second with three points behind The Red Devils. It is bound to be a mouth-watering match this weekend.
The teams’ previous games
The Reds secured a victory in FA Cup last weekend. They smashed Aston Villa U-23 4-0. The winning goals were scored by Sadio Mane’s brace plus Mo Salah and Gini Wijnaldum. FA is one of the domestic competitions Klopp has not won during his reign. He could be targeting for this at the end of the season too.
Meanwhile, Manchester United managed to climb to the top in the encounter against Burnley in the midweek. Paul Pogba scored the only goal of the match while they thumped them 1-0 on the road.
Jurgen Klopp has always been in favour of 4-3-3 formation with their regular front three, Mo Salah-Firmino-Sadio Mane. They are irreplaceable as Divock Origi has not been in-form lately and Diogo Jota is still sidelined due to the injury along with Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Naby Keita. At the backline, Klopp would have to pick Fabinho and Neco Williams or Jordan Henderson again.
His junior counterpart, Ole Solksjaer, is likely to employ 4-2-3-1 formation. Bruno Fernandes is still the key man in their attack as the number-ten role behind Edison Cavani since Anthony Martial is doubtful to play here. The French star Paul Pogba has been given a new role by operating wide on the left flank while Marcus Rashford is on the right.
Players to watch
Despite the criticism on his form this season, Mo Salah is still the current top scorer of the club, with 16 goals plus 4 assists in Premier League and Champions League combined. Another key man to watch beside Mane and Firmino is the former Bayern man, Thiago Alcantara who should get a nod for the starting IX here.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes’s contribution this season is still the highest, just like last season. He has notched up eleven goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League. Another notable name to focus on here is Marcus Rashford who has contributed seven goals and five assists in EPL.
Liverpool vs Manchester United Prediction
Sadio Mane and Co’ unconvincing form will be tested here, whether they deserve to retain the title or need to make improvement soon, including the reinforcement in this current transfer window. Ole Solksjaer’s men also need to prove themselves how far they can keep their positive performance this season. In the end, both are likely to share spoils here.
In this exciting clash, the draw result is priced the highest at 3/1. Jurgen Klopp’s men’s win market is only at 42/41, whereas Marcus Rashford and Co are backed to win at 11/4.
