Preview and Prediction
The Merseyside derby comes at the right time for Liverpool. Their confidence has been boosted after an away win in the Champions League in the midweek while the Toffees just slumped to another defeat. It will be a good chance for Liverpool to get back in the UCL spot race as well as thwarting their local contenders’ ambition to climb higher.
The teams’ previous games
The Reds clinched an unlikely win against the favourite RB Leipzig in Budapest, due to the travel restrictions to Germany. Jurgen Klopp’s side won 2-0 by taking advantage of two defensive blunders from Leipzig. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane bagged the goals.
Everton suffered another loss while playing host to the top leader Manchester City. They lost 1-3 by the goals of Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and the Portuguese international Bernardo Silva. Richarlison’s equaliser meant nothing eventually.
Jurgen Klopp seems to believe in 4-3-3 formation which actually transforms to 4-3-1-2. At the backline, Ozan Kabak’s positive form in the last outing shall earn him one spot in the starting IX to accompany Jordan Henderson. In the midfield, Curtis Jones, Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be occupying the area to support Xerdan Shaqiri as the number ten behind Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti should consider deploying more pragmatic tactical approach as Klopp lately relies on swift counter attack more to score. The 4-3-2-1 formation seems more likely. Unfortunately, Everton will miss Dominic Calvert Lewin at the front and Yerry Mina at the back. James Rodriguez seems to be the best choice upfront supported by Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Joshua King could be brought on at the second half though to break the deadlock.
Players to watch
Apart from Calvert-Lewin, the former Bayern and Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez is certainly one creative figure on Everton’s attack. He has registered five goals and three assists in the process this season. Another key man to watch is the left back Lucas Digne.
Mo Salah seems to be the only one who still constantly scored despite Liverpool’s disappointing form. The Egyptian has bagged 21 goals and four assists in EPL and Champions League. Another notable name to focus on is the Spaniard Thiago Alcantara.
Liverpool vs Everton Prediction
Jordan Henderson and Co should have the positive win on their side which could be useful to bounce back in the Premier League after their series of negative results. The Toffees should come up with a better plan than their last two outings to steal points here. Otherwise, a narrow win for the home side seems more probable.
It is bound to be a tight affair. Liverpool’s odds to win are at 11/21, whereas Carlo Ancelotti’s men are only projected to win at 32/5. The draw result is at the value of 19/5.
