Preview and Prediction
Two Premier League dark horses will be squaring off this weekend as Leicester and Southampton are meeting in King Power Stadium for matchday 18. The Foxes must continue their positive trend in order not to slip again like last season if they aim for one Champions League spot next season. They are still sitting on the fourth with thirty two points. The Saints are sitting on the seventh with only three points away from Jamie Vardy and Co.
The teams’ previous games
Leicester progressed to the next round of FA Cup last weekend after smashing Stoke 4-0. James Justin netted an opener followed by Marc Albrighton’s, Ayoze Perez’s and Harvey Barnes’.
Southampton just sealed a vital win over Liverpool in their last outing. Their winning goal was eventually scored by the former Liverpool man, Danny Ings in the early first half.
Brendan Rodgers might be deploying 4-2-3-1 again with the transition to 4-3-3. Unfortunately a number of his key men are possibly sidelined such as Dennis Praet, Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Ricardo Perreira plus the Roma loanee Cengiz Under. Thus, Ayoze Perez might be occupying the targetman role again supported by Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton on the wings. The Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho can be brought on to break the deadlock.
Ralph Hassenhutl is even facing in a bigger trouble as more players are set to be ruled out here, including Danny Ings who tested positive COVID-19. The other names who are potentially sidelined are Jannik Vestergaard, Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo Che Adams, Michael Obafemi and Oriol Romeu. Therefore, the former RB Leipzig boss might have to deploy Theo Walcott as a frontman alongside Shane Long while in the midfield, James Ward-Prowse is likely to be accompanied by Ibrahima Diallo in the middle while Stuart Amstrong and Yan Valery will be operating on both flanks.
Players to watch
It would be a major blow if Vardy can not be fit for this fixture. Either Ayoze or Iheanacho are not exactly a goal getter figure yet. No wonder that Brendan Rodgers relies on Harvey Barnes to score. He has bagged five goals and one assist. The Belgian international can be pushed forward as well to anchor the attack.
The Saints’ top performer this season is James Ward-Prowse who has notched up four goals and created four assists. Some other notable figures to watch are the right back Kyle Walker-Peters and the Scots Stuart Amstrong.
Leicester vs Southampton Prediction
Harvey Barnes and Co should have the advantage to secure another win here. The only thing they have to improve is their clinical finish since Vardy might miss the game here. Iheanacho and Ayoze Perez need to strive to prove their positive contribution to Brendan Rodgers’ team. Nevertheless, the match seems more even instead of imbalance and the draw result is the fairest one.
The punters seem to pick no favourite here. The home side’s win market is at 11/13, whereas Theo Walcott and Co are projected to win at 4/1. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 45/16.
