Preview and Prediction
This season does not seem to be a friendly one for Juventus. They are still stuck on the fourth in the standings with 39 points. Despite having one game in hand, La Vecchia Signora are having a hard time keeping their consistency they had in the previous seasons. This weekend, Andre Pirlo’s men will be taking on AS Roma at the home turf. Giallorossi is standing just above them with only one point ahead. No wonder that this is a decisive game for both sides as whichever team seals three points will be on the better position than the other.
The teams’ previous matches
Cristiano Ronaldo and Co just progressed to the final of Coppa Italia again after snatching a win on the road against Inter Milan. The Portuguese megastar, CR7 netted a brace to turn it around after La Beniamata took the lead first by the Argentine Lautaro Martinez.
Henrikh Mikhitariyan also secured a win at home last weekend while hosting Verona. Roma dismantled them 3-1 by the goals of Gianluca Mancini, the Armenian attacking midfielder, Henrikh Mikitariyan and the former Real Madrid man, Borja Mayoral.
Andrea Pirlo, is likely to be in favour of 4-4-2 formation. Cristiano Ronaldo is accompanied by Dejan Kulusevski or Alvaro Morata at the front, since the Argetine Paulo Dybala is sidelined due to his injury. On both flanks, Federico Chiesa and Weston McKennie will be operating wide. Some other players ruled out here is the Welsh international Aaron Ramsey.
Meanwhile, Paulo Fonseca might still be opting for 3-4-2-1, however, he is unlikely to put Edin Dzeko in the starting line up after their row last week. Borja Mayoral will get the nod as the targetman again supported by Henrikh Mikhitariyan and possibly Carles Perez since Pedro, Nico Zaniolo and Chris Smalling are on the sideline for this fixture due to their injury.
Players to watch
Apart from their mega star, Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus’ key men this season are the Italian international Federico Chiesa who has registered five goals and three assists, the American Weston McKennie and Juan Cuadrado, who often feature the right back role.
The former Manchester United and Arsenal man, Henrikh Mikihtariyan is Roma’s top performers with nine goals and eight assists. Some other notable men to watch are the midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini who has bagged four goals and made five assists, the Frenchmen Jordan Veretrout and Rick Karsdrop.
Juventus vs Roma Prediction
This is surely an exciting match and offers a tight clash between the two. Considering Pirlo’s men form against the big teams, they could be sharing spoils here, especially if Paulo Fonseca and Edin Dzeko can put aside their disagreement. Otherwise, they could suffer another loss, since Borja Mayoral seems to be not up for the big games yet.
