Preview and Prediction
Inter Milan’s campaign in Europe may have been over but their domestic one is still very much alive. They are still sitting on the second and only three points away from their local contender, AC Milan, not the reigning Champions Juventus. Thus, this season is their great chance to win Serie A. This midweek, they will be taking on the one on the third of the table, Napoli, which is separated by only one point from them. It’s a decisive clash before the winter break for sure.
Both teams’ previous games
Inter picked up a win while travelling to Cagliari on the weekend. They came from behind to dismantle the host 3-1. Ricardo Sottil bagged an opener of the game. Conte’s men had to wait till the second half for the equaliser scored by Nico Barella. He also provided an assist for Danilo D’Ambrosio’s goal before Romelu Lukaku sealed their three points.
Napoli also snatched a win in the same way as La Beniamata while hosting Sampdoria on the weekend. They thumped Il Samp 2-1 after conceding first by Jakub Jankto. They also were able to reply on the second half by Hirving Lozano. The Mexican international then made an assist for Andrea Petagna’s goal.
Antonio Conte is still opting for 3-5-2, despite their continental campaign failure. He still relies on Lukaku-Lautaro Martinez upfront. Yet, in the midfield, some changes are expected as Arturo Vidal, Achraf Hakimi and Mathias Vecino are ruled out. Nico Barella is likely to take over Vidal’s position accompanied by Stefano Sensi while Mario Brozovic is operating deep in front of the backline. Matteo Darmian shall fill in Hakimi’s position.
His counterpart, Gennaro Gatusso, is more in favour of 4-3-3 formation with the transition to 4-2-3-1. The injury of Victor Osimhen can still be covered by Andrea Petagna. The former SPAL striker will be supported by Hirving Lozano and Lorenzo Insigne on both flanks.
Players to watch
The Belgian forward, Romelu Lukaku is still irreplacable with thirteen goals and two assists so far. Another key figure to focus on is Nico Barella with one goal and five assists in all competitions.
The former PSV Eindhoven man, Hirving Lozano is the Napoli’s new gun apart from Dries Mertens who is already 33-year old. He has netted seven goals and provided two assists in all competition. Another notable name to watch is surely the skipper Lorenzo Insigne.
Inter vs Napoli Prediction
Nerazzurri’s only chance to win prestigious silverware lies in Serie A. This is a must-win for them, though it would not be easy as Gatusso’s side has less predictable tactic. The match is definitely tight and both sides could trade goals in a goal galore. Yet, eventually, Conte’s men will be sharing one point with the visitors.
