Preview and Prediction
Nerrazurri is still on the hunt for their slight chance of Serie A title. They are still on the second with eight points behind Juventus. With only four games remaining, only misfortune could prevent La Vecchia Signora from retaining their domestic title. However, such misfortune does exist as Juventus failed to win against Milan, Atalanta and Sassuolo. What Conte’s men can do is to keep on winning when it happens so that at least they can close the gap or with the strike of luck, take over the top.
The teams’ previous matches
Inter was unable to continue their series of victory while travelling to Olimpico. They could only muster a 2-2 draw against Roma. Stefan De Vrij took the lead first before his own goal equalised it. Il Giallorossi then had their turn to lead as Henrikh Mikhitariyan found the back of the net. Luckily, a penalty was awarded to them and Romelu Lukaku did not waste the opportunity to make them level.
La Viola, on the other hand, had their first win at home since January after trashing Torino 2-0. Lyanco’s own goal opened the score sheet for the home side and Patrick Cutrone doubled their lead. Their positive trend endures in the fifth games consecutively.
Antonio Conte prefers to opt for 3-5-2 with the transition to 3-4-1-2 lately. He normally accommodates the Danish international Cristian Eriksen for the number 10 role behind the dynamic duo, Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. However, considering the result in the previous game, the former Chelsea boss should consider modifying it to 3-4-3 as he did in Chelsea. Eriksen can play wide along with Alexis Sanchez to support Lukaku as the lone striker.
In Fiorentina, Guiseppe Iachini is apparently in favour of the similar formation as his counterpart, besides possible transition to 3-4-3 if necessary. Patrick Cutrone and Franck Ribery are the best choice upfront, while Federico Chiesa is more mobile and versatile as he could play wide as the wing back or attacking midfielder as well.
Players to watch
Inter under Conte relies on Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez more as the main scorer. Yet, the one who has stolen the spotlight lately is the Manchester United loanee, Alexis Sanchez, who seems to have found his good form after his bleak season in Old Trafford. He has scored three goals and provided eight assists. Another notable name to watch is the Croatian international Marcelo Brozovic.
Meanwhile, in Fiorentina, the Wolverhampton loanee Patrick Cutrone is the most notable one lately. He has scored four goals and made one assist. Some other key figures this season are Erick Pulgar, Federico Chiesa and surely Franck Ribery.
Inter vs Fiorentina Prediction
La Viola might have no certain objectives in this game as they are quite safe from the relegation threat. Thus, they might be just playing without any burden in Milan. Inter might need to do the same to lose the pressure considering their slim shot to win the title this season. However, the home side narrow win seems to be the most likely result.
