Being on the top of the table with six points clear should be a relief for Atletico Madrid now. They now intend to extend their margin while travelling to Getafe this weekend. Jose Bordalas and Co have been struggling to find consistency in order to avoid relegation battle as they are sitting on the 15th in the standings. It should be a good opportunity for Diego Simeone’s men to pick up another three points.
Both teams’ previous games
Getafe lost 2-1 in the away fixture last weekend while taking on Real Valladolid. Oscar Plano gave the home side the lead and Shon Weismann doubled their lead through his header. Jamie Mata replied thirteen minutes later but no more goals scored in that match.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid managed to comeback from behind while hosting Athletic Bilbao in the midweek. They defeated the Basque side 2-1. Iker Muniain netted an opener but Los Rojiblancos had to wait just before the interval as Marcos Llorente found the equaliser. Their winning goal finally came on 51st minute when Luis Suarez added his tally through a penalty.
Jose Bordalas needs to consider deploying different formation to maximise his squad’s potential. The 4-3-2-1 is worth trying here with Enes Unal as the frontman since Jaime Mata is serving his ban while Cucho Hernandez and Carles Alena or Take Kubo will be supporting behind the Turkish striker. In the midfield, Marc Cucurella, Mauro Arambarri and Allan Nyom will be operating in the area.
His counterpart, Diego Simeone would be in favour of 4-3-3 again just like in the previous outing. Luis Suarez, Joao Felix and Yannick Carrasco or Angel Correa shall be opted for the front three, while in the midfield, Marcos Llorente, Koke and Saul Niguez or Thomas Lemar will be supporting them from the second line. None is sidelined for injury or suspension for this fixture.
Players to watch
Getafe’s top performers are the Uruguayan defensive midfielder Mauro Arambarri who has bagged three goals, the La Masia graduate, Marc Cucurella with three goals and one assist, plus Nemanja Maksimovic.
The former Barcelona prolific striker, Luis Suarez and Marcos Llorente have been the key men for Los Choconeros in the past few games. Some other notable names to watch are the Frenchman Thomas Lemar, Joao Felix and the English wing back, Kieran Trippier.
Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Diego Simeone’s men are eyeing for another win here, which should be easy to snatch. Unless Jose Bordalas employ tactical approach, then Getafe might have a chance to stun Atletico which is actually still striving to find the impressive form they had earlier this season. A narrow win for Marcos Llorente and Co is still plausible.
The clash is important for both sides which have different mission, to avoid relegation and to stay on top. The home side’s odds to win are at 4/1, whereas Atletico Madrid’s win market is at 24/23. The odds for the draw result are at 19/9.
