Preview and Prediction
The return of Fulham to the top tier this season is welcomed by an early London derby. Scott Parker’s men will be taking on The Gunners who have just clinched FA Community Shield title before the international break through a penalty shoot-out. Avoiding a defeat would be necessary for Fulham to boost their confidence and mentality. Moreover, it would prove that they are ready and deserve to stay in the top flight, unlike two seasons ago.
Both teams’ updated news
Fulham signed several new faces, the former Juventus and Southampton man, Mario Lemina, Brighton’s Anthony Knockhaert and Harrison Reed. They also called back their loanee, Jean Michael Seri, Andre Zambo-Anguissa and Uruguayan goalie, Fabri.
Mikel Arteta seems to be more prepared and have faith in his team after the victory in Wembley in the past two months. Arsenal made two important signings, Willian from Chelsea and Lille’s centre back, Gabriel Magalhaes plus tied up their two loaned players, Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari. They also released Henrikh Mikhitariyan to Roma and Konstantinos Mavropanos to Vfb Stuttgart.
The 39-year old boss, Scott Parker might be employing his favourite 4-3-3 formation with transition to 4-2-3-1. Alexander Mitrovic is likely to return to the starting IX accompanied by Neeskens Kebano and Ivan Cavaleiro on both flanks. In the midfield, Andre Anguissa and Jean Michael Seri or Stefan Johansen are the perfect option to support Tom Cairney.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta could be in favour of the same formation or his favourite last season, 3-4-3. Pierre Aubameyang and Willian is the perfect choice upfront, while Nicolas Pepe, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka will be fighting over one left spot to accompany them. However, some names will be ruled out due to their injury such as Matteo Guendozi, Gabriel Martinelli and German men, Mesut Ozil and Skhodran Mustafi.
Players to watch
The Serbian international, Alexander Mitrovic, is still the main scorer of the team. Some other key figures are Ivan Cavaleiro, Neeskends Kebano, Tom Cairney and the Irish international Cyrus Christie.
The Gunners surely have more key men in the team. Apart from the former Dortmund man, Pierre Aubameyang, there are Swiss international Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos, Spanish wing back Hector Bellerin and the former Chelsea man, Willian. Another notable man to watch is the goalie, Emilaino Martinez.
Fulham vs Arsenal Prediction
Playing at their home turf might still be quite a challenge for Tom Cairney and Co to pick up three points here. Arsenal is in their progress of their positive trend under Arteta. They could be unstoppable to secure a win here unless Scott Parker could come up with something to stun their opponent, such as employing 4-3-2-1 for example. A narrow win for The Gunners is still more likely.
David Luiz and Co are still regarded as the clear favourite. Their win market is at 1.55, whereas Fulham is projected to win only at 5.80. The draw result is at the value of 4.35.
