Preview and Prediction
Both World Cup 2018 finalists, France and Croatia, will br squaring off again for the second round of UEFA Nations League A Group 3. They had a different start last week. Les Blues picked up three points while Vatreni were smashed on the road. This upcoming clash will be held in Stade de France, Saint Denis this midweek.
Both teams’ previous games
France secured a 1-0 win over Sweden on the opening round in Solna, despite their unimpressive form. Their boy wonder Kylian Mbappe scored the winning goal. They had a chance to double their lead by a penalty but Griezmann missed it.
Croatia, on the other hand, were trashed by the reigning Champions, Portugal. Despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, they could not simply prevent themselves from conceding more than one goal. Joao Cancelo, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Andre Silva bagged one goal each while Vatreni only managed to net a consolation goal by Bruno Petkovic.
Didier Deschamps might stick to his previous system 3-4-1-2. Anthony Martial could be opted for the starting IX alongside Wissam Ben Yedder, while Antoine Griezmann will be the playmaker behind them. Sadly, Kylian Mbappe is sidelined due to being positively infected by covid-19 alongwith Paul Pogba, Houssam Aourar and Steve Mandanda.
Meanwhile, Zlatko Dalic is likely to opt for the same 4-2-3-1 formation but with different starting IX. The new star at the front, Dinamo Zagreb man, Bruno Petkovic might earn his place in the line up. He will gain supports from Mario Pasalic in the midfield plus Marko Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic while Ante Rebic and Ivan Perisic are operating outwide on the pitch.
Players to watch
Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann is the key figure on the attack. He has notched up 30 goals in 79 caps. Some other notable names to watch are NGolo Kante, Raphael Varane and Adrien Rabiot.
In Croatia’s current squad, Bruno Petkovic has been the new potential main scorer after the retirement of Mario Madzukic. Another key man to watch is AC Milan forward Ante Rebic.
France vs Croatia Prediction
Deschamps’ men may not have their winning team here but they are still unstoppable. Their flexible formation and pool of versatile figures in the squad could lead to their next victory, especially if Ivan Perisic and Co do not improve their last form.
France remain the clear favorite here. They are backed to win at 1.50 whereas Zlatko Dalic’s win market is only at 6.60. The draw is at the value of 4.10.
