Everton and Spurs are fighting each other for the Europa League spot. They have collected 48 and 49 points respectively but The Toffees still have one game in hand. A win would topple Jose Mourinho’s men. With only eight and seven games to go, every point is vital. Unfortunately, neither side is in their positive trend. Harry Kane and Co have just secured one win in the last four games while Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been even winless in the same number of matches.
The teams’ previous games
The Toffees failed to snatch three points again in their visit to Brighton. They were held in a goalless draw. James Rodriguez and Co seemed frustrated as they failed to score. Their lack of clinical finish is the main issue, especially when Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson are unavailable or not in their top form.
Tottenham, on the other hand, had to slump to another defeat. This time they were beaten 1-3 at their home turf against Manchester United. Son Heung min gave them the lead before the interval but at the second half, they were hapless against the on-fire United. Fred, Edison Cavani and Marcus Greenwood scored Ole Solskjaer’s winning goals.
Carlo Ancelotti might have to deploy 3-4-2-1 considering the piles of names on their injury table. Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucore, Fabian Delph, Joshua King, Jean Gbamin and Bernard are certainly ruled out while Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Pickford, Allan and Andre Gomes are doubtful. Thus, Mason Holgate is likely to cover Yerry Mina at the backline accompanied by Michael Kane and Ben Godfrey. In the midfield, Tom Davies will be the anchorman alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson while Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman are featuring as the wing back. Upfront, James Rodriguez shall play as the frontman while Richarlison and Alex Iwobi are supporting the Colombian international from behind.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho could return to 4-4-2 formation which led to more positive results in Villa Park and St.James Park than last weekend. Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane will be the frontmen duo again while Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale are operating wide. The only names on the sideline are Ben Davies and Matt Doherty.
Players to watch
Everton’s top performer is still James Rodriguez who has registered six goals and four assists so far. Another vital figure to watch is the former Barcelona wing back who is currently the top assist provider for the club, Lucas Digne with six assists.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min are back again. Both have scored 33 goals combined in the process, which could be something Everton should worry about here. Another key man to watch is the former PSG man, Lucas Moura who has bagged three goals and provided four assists.
Everton vs Tottenham Prediction
The potential crisis in Everton could disrupt their focus on claiming the continental competition place next season. They may have beaten them in FA cup quarter final in their last encounter but this time it will be tricky to rekindle such victory. A draw would be more plausible.
