Preview and Prediction
The FA Cup round of 16 is playing this midweek. The Toffees and Spurs will be squaring off in Goodison Park. It is also a clash of two former Real Madrid bosses The fixture congestion this season might push them to rest some of their key players here, especially Tottenham which will be taking on the top leader Manchester City.
The teams’ previous games
Everton was able to pick up a point dramatically while travelling to Old Trafford last weekend. They held Manchester United 3-3 despite conceding twice first by Edison Cavani’s header and Bruno Fernandes’ long range lop. Yet, they equalised at the second half by Doucoure and James Rodriguez. Although the home side scored another one by Scott McTominay’s header, Dominic Calvert-Lewin managed to level the term right at the last kick of the game.
Meanwhile, Tottenham crushed West Bromwich Albion 2-0 on the weekend. After struggling to break the deadlock at the first half, they scored an opener by Harry Kane and followed by Son Heung-Min’s goal. It was a positive result for the England captain’s return after his absence due to the injury.
Carlo Ancellotti will not be able to play number one goalie and England international, Jordan Pickford, is sidelined alongside Allan and unfortunately, James Rodriguez too. Gylfi Sigurdsson is the favourite to lead the attack in his 4-2-3-1 with the transition to 4-3-3 Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still the number one forward supported by Richarlison and Alex Iwobi on both swings.
His counterpart, Jose Mourinho tends to employ the same 4-2-3-1 formation but he is likely to rest Son Heung-Min. Harry Kane will e Sergio Reguilon and Giovanni Lo Celso are sidelined due to their injury plus the out-of-favour Delle Alli.
Players to watch
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was back on the score sheet last weekend proving that he is already in-form after the previous goal drought in Premier League. Another key man to watch is the Icelandic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson who has contributed three goals and two assists in EPL.
Spurs’s top performers apart from Son and Kane are Tanguy Ndombele with three goals and one assists, Pierre Hojbjerg with one goal and three assists and the wing back, Serge Aurier. Another notable name to focus on here is the former PSG man Lucas Moura.
Everton vs Tottenham Prediction
It is a tough call to decide the winner as both are equal with the same target, qualifying in UEFA Champions League. Yet, the chance to win silverware here shall never be slipped out of their hand as it has been years since both sides won their last FA Cup. The game could end up in a draw and will have to be replayed.
