Preview and Prediction
The Toffees are aiming for more points to catch up in the race for the continental competition next season. They are currently sitting on the 7th of the table but have two games in hand. One of them, unfortunately, is on schedule this midweek against Manchester City. The Citizens are targeting three points as well to keep them away from their contenders.
The teams’ previous games
Everton was surprisingly beaten by Fulham 0-2 last weekend. A brace from Fulham’s new signing, Josh Maja, who tapped in the ball into the empty net after the deflection, was enough to humiliate Carlo Ancelotti’s side at their home turf.
Manchester City, on the other hand, carried on sealing three points. This time they trashed Tottenham 3-0. Rodrigo’s penalty and Illkay Gundogan’s brace avenged their loss in the reverse fixture last year.
Carlo Ancelotti needs to consider deploying different formation than 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. This is mainly due to the injury of their key men including James Rodriguez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the England international Jordan Pickford. This would be a chance for their new signing, Joshua King to prove his quality. The Norwegian striker is likely to be accompanied by Richarlison in 4-3-1-2. Gylfi Sigurdsson will be occupying the number ten role, while behind him, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes are supporting the Icelandic playmaker to close down The Citizen’s creative figures.
Pep Guardiola will still be employing 4-3-3 formation which can be flexible in any situation. This time some figures will have to be sidelined, including Ilkay Gundogan who has transformed into a deadly midfielder while defending and scoring, plus Nathan Ake and Fernandinho. Luckily, Kevin de Bruyne is ready to be named in the starting IX. The frontmen will still be Gaby Jesus, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling.
Players to watch
Gylfi Sigurdsson is the anchorman when James Rodriguez is on the sideline. He has netted three goals and made two assists so far. Another notable name to watch is the former Barcelona man, Lucas Digne who is also the top assist provider, 6 assists.
The English youngster Phil Foden has been playing the vital role in Man City’s attack. The 20-year old playmaker has bagged five goals and made three assists in EPL. Another key men to watch are Raheem Sterling and the Portuguese midfield Bernardo Silva.
Everton vs Manchester City Prediction
Guardiola’s last visit to the city of Liverpool was quite memorable. This midweek, Raheem Sterling and Co shall attempt to rekindle that big win in Anfield here. The Citizens’ positive trend is bound to continue with a narrow win instead of in a thriller.
This clash is meant to be even. The odds for a draw result is at 5/1, Manchester City are projected to win at 7/19 whereas the home side is backed to win at 9/1.
