- FC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has issued a formal apology letter to Sofapaka following the remarks he made over the weekend that rightfully upset the club.
Shikanda, denied the existence of Sofapaka via a live radio with a local station triggering a reaction from Batoto Ba Mungu.
“Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are bigger than the federation. I just know KCB as a bank and I have never known a team calling itself Sofapaka,” said Shikanda
Sofapaka responded through a letter to the Leopards boss demanding an apology for underrating them. The club was offended by his remarks and pointed out the fact that they broke a record and are in history books for winning the Kenyan Elite League in 2009
“This is lack of respect and we demand an immediate apology from AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda. He should know that Sofapaka is in the history books as one of the teams that won the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) on its debut season,” read part of the letter from Sofapaka
Shikanda has admitted that he had regrets about the way he triggered a negative reaction from the Batoto Ba Mungu. He however denies suggestions that he demeaned the club expounding that he was only commenting on a light note. He cleared his name and stated that he had sorted the matter with the club’s boss.
“We have been friends with Sofapaka for years and whatever I said during the interview was probably interpreted wrongly. I did not mean to demean them or portray the club as nondescript. I made the remarks in a light moment but if anyone from the club or any stakeholder was offended then I offer an apology. I called Kalekwa after it appeared that my sentiments were misinterpreted and sorted things out,” Shikanda said.
