The Three Lions’s disappointing display in their last outing leaves some doubts towards their ability to even reach the last four later. Gareth Southgate’s men will have to prove their true quality to their fans that they deserve to be the favourite as well as the host at the final stage of the tournament. Their next opposition, Czech Rep, is not and easy one to beat. They can be as tricky as the other contenders in group D.
Both teams’ previous games
Czech Rep failed to hold on at the second match against Croatia to secure three points. After leading 1-0 through Patrick Schick’s penalty, Tomas Soucek and Co had been unable to extend their lead. Instead, they conceded by Ivan Perisic’s strike to the far corner of the goal.
Harry Kane and Co also mustered a draw but only a goalless one against Scotland. They were frustrated and unable to break the deadlock. England’s best chance was at the first half as John Stone’s header hit the post, while Scotland’s most dangerous shot on target was from Lyndon Dykes taking advantage from rumble in the box yet swept by Recce James.
Jaroslav Silhavy is likely to employ the same formation, 4-2-3-1 with a settled line yp. Patrick Schick is still the frontman with Vladimir Darida operating behind him plus Lukas Masopust and Jakub Jankto on both wingsm while in the midfield, West Ham man Tomas Soucek and Alex Kral remain the key figures to keep the balance between two lines.
Gareth Southgate might have to consider deploying 3-4-2-1 formation to add more intensity, creativity as well as the counter pressing to the opposition’s midfield. By winning the ball, they could add more chances to score. Harry Kane might still be in the starting XI despite his lack of pace. Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount or Jack Grealish could be featuring as attacking midfielder behind the skipper.
Players to watch
In Czech Rep, West Ham’s top scorer and vital figure for the Londoners, Tomas Soucek had a stellar season with his club with ten goals and one assist. Yet, his condition to play is reportedly doubtful . Some other notable names to watch are surely Valdislav Scoufal, Hertha Berlin man Vladimir Darida and the current top scorer, Patrick Schick.
England might have to come up with some other figures apart from relying on The Citizens men in the line up. Jack Grealish is one of the expected figure to shine here along side Marcus Rashford and last but not least, Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Czech Rep vs England Prediction
It is quite hard to hope for England’s great form here if they still display the team of fatigue figures with lack of clinical finish upfront. Unless, Southgate comes up with stunning attacking lines with pace, creativity and strong mentality against their home fans’ criticism, the match could end in a stalemate again.
