Crystal Palace’s campaign this season may have been similar with the previous season. Although nothing is certain yet, his position on the twelfth is quite safe from the relegation threat while the hope for continental competition next season is still out of reach. With only one defeat in the last six games, Palace is still a tricky opponent for The Blues, especially after their stunning loss last weekend.
The teams’ previous matches
The Palace was able to hold Everton in a 1-1 draw on the road last weekend. James Rodriguez gave the Toffees the lead but Mitchy Batsuayi levelled the score sheet quite late on 86th minute to deny Carlo Ancellotti’s prospective win.
Chelsea’s fourteen unbeaten run finally came to an end last weekend. Luckily, Thomas Tuchel’s men bounced back soon in the midweek after crushing Porto 2-0 in the Champions League. Mason Mount and Ben Chillwell scored their UCL goal debut as well as the winning goal in Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
Roy Hodgson will still be in favour of the classic 4-4-2. It may be rather old fashioned system but fortunately, his squad has some names with creativity, acceleration and pace to transform it into a less typical one. Winfred Zaha is the still the main forward accompanying the former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker, Christian Benteke. On both wings, Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze will be operating on that area. Several names are unavailable due to the injury such as James McArthur, Mamadou Sakho, James Tomkins, James McCarthy and Mitchy Batsuayi who is ineligible to play against his parent club.
Thomas Tuchel is likely to stick to his 3-4-2-1. However, there might be a chance for him to rotate some names in the squad. Kai Havertz might still get a nod in the strating XI but Timo Werner and Mason Mount could be rested at the first half and give the chance for Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech to start the game. The only name ruled out for this fixture is Thiago Silva who is serving his suspension.
Players to watch
Winfred Zaha is still the leader on Palace attack. He has netted nine goals and provided two assists. Another notable name to focus on is the left winger, Eberechi Eze with three goals and assists each.
Chelsea’s top performers this season is Mason Mount who has contributed six goals and three assists in EPL. Some other key men to watch are the wing back Ben Chillwell, the goalkeeper Eduard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Prediction
Cesar Azpilicueta and Co might be expected to win considering their position in the standings for the UCL spot is not safe yet. They are still competing with Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool for one slot left. Roy Hodgson’s men’s objective here however is only to avoid losing again. A narrow win for The Blues is still more likely.
The Blues are still the favourite here. They are priced to win at 10/17. In contrast, Palace’s win market is at 33/5. Meanwhile, the draw result is at the value of 3/1.
