Preview and Prediction
The Blues are flying high after the managerial changes. Thomas Tuchel has been slowly making progress in building up the team’s confidence and creating more solid defence. What’s left now is improving their attack. This weekend will be a good time for them to test their attacking line as they only encounter Newcastle, which is struggling for the relegation battle.
The teams’ previous games
Chelsea’s unbeaten run still continues. In the midweek, they thumped Barnsley 1-0 on fifth round of FA Cup. Tammy Abraham scored the only goal of the game to bring his team advance to the quarter final.
The Magpies were involved in a thriller last weekend while taking on Southampton before snatching a 3-2 win. Arsenal loanee Joe Willock opened the scoring, followed by Miguel Almiron’s brace. The Saints only replied twice by Takumi Minamino’s goal and James Ward-Prowse’s free kick.
Thomas Tuchel is more settled with 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 formation. Unfortunately, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz are doubtful to be able to feature in the weekend. Thus, the German boss shall prepare Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Hakim Ziyech at the front while Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud could come off the bench at the second half.
Meanwhile, Steve Bruce and Graeme Jones are still likely to employ the 4-3-1-2 formation. Miguel Almiron is the anchorman in the build-up supported by Allan Saint-Maximin who could play wide up front alongside Joelinton, since Callum Wilson are ruled out along with Fabian Schars, Federico Fernandez, Javier Manquillo, and the skipper Jamal Lascelles due to the injury while the Ireland international, Jeff Hendricks is serving his suspension.
Players to watch
Chelsea’s top perfomers under Tuchel are Marcos Alonso, Callum Hudson Odoi and Mason Mount who can be versatile as well occupying a number of roles, either out wide or number ten role. Another key man to watch here is the French defender Kurt Zouma.
The Paraguayan international, Miguel Almiron has thrived under a new role, by being number ten. He has notched up four goals and one assist so far. Another key man to watch is the talisman Allan Saint-Maximin who excels at pace and acceleration.
Chelsea vs Newcastle Prediction
The Blues are working hard on their forwards who have been unable to score yet, especially Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. If they have not been in-form, Tuchel’s men might only secure a narrow win again, provided Newcastle’s defence is still as vulnerable as their last outing.
The punters are definitely backing Chelsea here. Mason Mount and Co are priced to win at 2/7, whereas the visitors’ win market is at 14/1. The draw result is at the value of 6/1.
