The Blues is now confident on their chance to catch up the race for Champions League spot next season. They have been unbeaten since Thomas Tuchel took charge of the team. This weekend Tuchel’s men will finally face off the real contender, Manchester United, which is entailing Manchester City at the top of the table. This is surely one of the most anticipated games of the season.
The teams’ previous games
Chelsea managed to clinch a narrow win against Atletico Madrid at the first leg of Champions League round of 16. Their winning goal came from the overhead kick of Olivier Giroud. The result was quite relieving as they were almost frustrated throughout the game due to Diego Simeone’s tight defence.
Meanwhile, Manchester United crushed Newcastle United 3-1 last weekend in the Premier League. Marcus Rashford’s tight angle goal gave them the lead but then The Magpies were able to find the equaliser by Allan-Saint Maximin’s strike. The game was tie only till the first half. At the second half, Daniel James’ close range strike and Bruno Fernandes’ penalty sealed their win.
The former PSG boss seems to be settled with 3-4-2-1. His squad will be fully fit for this fixture, except the Brasilian defender Thiago Silva. Andreas Christensen will be taking over the former PSG man’s spot to play alongside Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Ole Solksjaer is still opting for 4-2-3-1. However, the Norwegian might have to play Anthony Martial again as the targetman since Edison Cavani is ruled out along with Paul Pogba, Danny Van de Beek, Scott McTominay and Phil Jones. The rest will still be the same with Bruno Fernandes as the number ten and Marcus Rashford plus Daniel James on both flanks.
Players to watch
The Blues’ top performers under Thomas Tuchel are Jorginho who has netted five goals and one assist, the defender Antonio Rudiger, Mason Mount with four goals and three assists and the left back Marcos Alonso.
Bruno Fernandes may still be the key man in the squad but some other figures deserve some recognition too, especially in the midfield. The Serbian international Nemanja Matic and Fred, who will be occupying the role due to the key men’s injury, shall be considered notable too for winning the ball and supporting the Portuguese playmaker to build up the attack.
Chelsea vs Manchester United Prediction
This clash is bound to be a tough one for both sides. Chelsea’s attacking line might have been less promising despite the daunting names in the squad. None can guarantee a goal in each match. Fortunately, the defensive prowess could potentially frustrate The Red Devils here, whose attack often relies on Bruno Fernandes’s creativity, Marcus Rashford’s pace and long ball to the frontman. A narrow win for the home side is more doable.
The punters are backing neither side here. Chelsea is priced to win at 13/10, whereas Marcus Rashford and Co’s win market is at 28/11. The draw result is at the value of 27/11.
