The Blues’ failure to clinch FA Cup on the weekeend begins to leave some doubts on Chelsea’s chance to keep on winning. Thomas Tuchel’s side must bounce back soon so that the doubts and incofidence does not cling on the players for far too long. Their next game is a perfect opportunity for them to avenge their loss in Wembley as they and The Foxes are squaring off again in Stamford Bridge in the midweek fixture. It is still crucial for both sides for the Champions League spot next season.
Both teams’ previous games
Chelsea and Leicester locked horns in the FA Cup final last weekend. The Blues were the favorite and Tuchel was expected to win the first two possible titles this season after taking charge of the team in January. Unfortunately, such hope did not come to reality as Brendan Rodgers’ men stunned them by a single goal of Belgian international,Youri Tielemans, through his long range shot to the far corner right of the net. Mason Mount and Co attempted to find the equaliser but denied by Kasper Schmeichel’s top form between the sticks.
Thomas Tuchel needs to start pondering a back-up tactical approach after the two consecutive defeats. His 3-4-2-1 with the transition to 3-4-1-2 does not seem to be effective against the less offensive team who tends to employ the counter attack and pressing. The 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2 formation can be considerable. Thiago Silva or Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma will be in front of the goal with Cesar Azpilicueta and Ben Chillwell operating on both flanks. In the midfield, NGolo Kante is accompanied by Jorginho and Callum Hudson Odoi who could play on both sides of the pitch as midfielder left or right. Meanwhile, Mason Mount or Kai Havertz will feature as the number ten to support the dynamic duo upfront, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech or Christian Pulisic.
His counterpart, Brendan Rodgers, will still be sticking to 3-5-2 formation. The absence of Johnny Evans, plus Harvey Barnes and James Justin does not seem to worry the former Liverpool and Celtic boss. Christian Fuchs shall be prepared to deputise Evans’ post to accompany Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana.
Players to watch
Mason Mount has been the important figure in Chelsea since his arrival along with Frank Lampard last season. He has notched up six goals and five assists in Premier League. Another notable name in the squad is Brasil-born Italian international Jorginho who has contributes six goals and one assist in EPL so far.
In Leicester, Youri Tielemans is certainly the anchorman in the midfield. The 24-year old Belgian has bagged six goals and four assists in EPL. Another key man to watch is the second top scorer, Kelechi Iheanacho with 11 goals and two assists this season.
Chelsea vs Leicester City Prediction
The Blues shall be more motivated for double mission, avinging their loss and avoiding The Reds and Spurs below. A win would help them seal one spot and clear the gap till the weekend at least. Yet, if Tuchel does not come up with a new tactic, they might be held by The Foxes.
