Preview and Prediction
Thomas Tuchel’s first touch in Chelsea has not showcased any improvement yet to Lampard’s system but there is a hope for it by the return of Antonio Rudinger in the starting IX. This weekend will be the next chance for the former PSG boss to prove his quality when The Blues are hosting Burnley. The Clarets are currently on the fifteenth and involved in a relegation battle.
The teams’ previous matches
Tuchel’s debut was not that promising. The Blues were held in a goalless draw at their home turf. Mason Mount and Co were even quite lucky not to lose the game as Wolves’ Pedro Neto’s attempt only rattled bar, whereas Chelsea barely had any decent chances but Ben Chilwell’s long range strike.
Burnley, on the other hand, secured their third victory in a row after thumping Aston Villa in a thriller. Both teams traded goals Villa scored twice by Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish. Yet, the Clarets, in turn, responded three times by Ben Mee’s head shot, Dwight McNeil’s long pass to the net and Chris Wood’s header.
Thomas Tuchel is known for his flexible formation. After the disappointing 3-4-2-1 in the previous outing, he could opt for 3-4-1-2 with Kai Havertz playing as number ten behind Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham or Christian Pulisic. The only name on the sideline is NGolo Kante.
Meanwhile, Sean Dyche has always been employing 4-4-2 classic formation with The New Zealand international Chris Woods and Ashley Barnes as the twin frontmen. The rest will not be different from the previous fixture. Two names who will be ruled out for this fixture are Josh Brownhill and Charlie Taylor.
Players to watch
Based on the previous game, Calum Hudson-Odoi could be Tuchel’s key man due to his versatility. Some other ones who would be the German boss’ favourite this season are surely the two German international Timo Werner, Antonio Rudinger and Thiago Silva.
Burnley relies on Ben Mee at the back, Ashley Westwood in the midfield and Chris Woods at the front who has registered four goals so far. Another key man to watch is definitely the goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Chelsea vs Burnley Prediction
Thiago Silva and Co will have to brush up their clinical finish to be able to break the deadlock. Burnley’s defence can be as solid as the rock when facing off top teams as Liverpool, which led to their precious win this season. If Tuchel’s men make the same mistake as The Reds, they could be punished by another defeat at home. However, both sides are likely to share spoils here.
According to the punters, there is no clear favourite in this game. However, The Blues’ odd to win is at 7/17. Sean Dyche’s men are projected to win at 9/1, whereas the draw result is at 43/10.
