Preview and Prediction
The Blues have spent a lot this summer and it is high time to prove how worthy their signings are for this season’s campaign. They are one of the favourites to win Premier League 2020/21. Firstly, they would be travelling to Brighton tonight for the opening round of EPL. The home side is confident as well with their current squad and prepared to put Frank Lampard’s men in difficulty to pick up three points at their home turf.
The teams’ updated news
Brighton have managed to signed two well-known names this season, the Dutch international Joel Veltman from Ajax and the former Liverpool man, Adam Lallana. Their arrival is followed by the signing of Wigan’s Jensen Weir, NAC Breda’s Jan Paul Van Hecke and Amiens’ Ulrick Ella, as well as the release of Shane Duffy, Anthony Knockaert, Aaron Mooy, Glen Murray and Martin Montoya.
Chelsea is the busiest team on signing new faces this summer. They have captured Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Malang Sarr. Moreover, they sold Alvaro Morata and Mario Pasalic, terminated the contract of Pedro and Willian plus loaned Michy Batsuayi.
Graham Potter is likely to be in favour of 4-2-3-1 with the transition to 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2. The Frenchman Neal Maupay will still be the main forward upfront supported by the Adam Lallana, Alexis Mac Allister and Pascal Gross. On the injury table, only Romanian forward Florian Andone is sidelined. Thus, Potter’s best starting IX will not be much affected.
His counterpart, Frank Lampard, might opt for the offensive 4-3-3 formation or 4-2-3-1. Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz are likely to be the front trio while in the midfield NGolo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley will be their main support. However, there are quite a number of figures ruled out for this fixture, including Christian Pulisic, Ben Chillwell and the Scottish young playmaker, Billy Gilmour.
Players to watch
Brighton’s Australian goalie, Matt Ryan will still be one of the key men this season. The departure of Aaron Mooy can be covered by Adam Lallana. Some other possibly notable figures to watch are Neal Maupay and the captain Lewis Dunk.
The German duo will be the main spotlight in the Blues this season. They are expected to have a vital role for the team. Another key man to watch is the former Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech.
Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction
Securing three points here should not be a challenging task for Cesar Azpilicueta and Co. Perhaps their new blood will take some time to tune in with Lampard’s system, plus considering the possibility of Graham Potter’s men to employ a more pragmatic approach Yet, a victory on the road on their first match is still quite doable for them, at least with one-goal difference.
Despite playing away, Chelsea is surely the clear favourite. They are backed to win at 1.60, whereas the home side is in the win market at 5.60. The odds for the draw result are at the value of 4.45.
