The last two Copa America winners, Brasil and Chile will have to lock horns at the quarter finals. This friday, both sides are aiming for one spot at the semifinal after the host is leading group B while Chile only finishes on the fourth of the table. Martin Lasarte’s side will have to struggle to stop Selecao from advancing to the next stage.
Both teams’ previous games
Brasil’s consecutive win had to end at the final game of the group stage after being held in a 1-1 draw by Ecuador. Eder Militao’s goal gave them the lead before the interval but Angel Mena mananged to put them back on level terms.
Chile suffered a 0-2 defeat from Paraguay in their last game. Samu and Miguel Almiron’s penalty brought the nightmare for La Roja.
Possible tactic
Tite would always be in favour of 4-2-3-1 with Neymar as the number ten behind Gabi Jesus or Firmino while Richarlison and Everton Ribeiro or Vinicius Junior set to offer the width. Selecao will be playing their offensive ball possesion-based tactical approach to dominate the game.
Martin Lasarte, on the other hand, would employ 4-4-2 formation with more pragmatic approach. Eduardo Vargas and Ben Brereton will be featuring as the front two. In the midfield, Charles Aranguiz, Arturo Vidal, Pablo Aranguiz and Erick Pulgar are operating on the second line by attempting to frustrate Brasilian attacking side.
Players to watch
Neymar is still the key man in the team. The former Barcelona man has scored two goals so far. He has made a number of assists in the competition too, including one for their winning goal against Colombia. Some other notable figures to watch are Everton man Richarlison, Gabi Jesus and Casemiro.
Chile relies on the senior striker, Eduardo Vargas as the main scorer. He has bagged two goals in the tournament. Some other key men to watch are the veteran goalie, Claudio Bravo, Arturo Vidal and Monaco defender Guillermo Maripan.
Brasil vs Chile Prediction
The home advantage would be optimised by Tite’s men for their second consecutive title, especially for Neymar who was ruled out due to his injury in the previous edition. Brasil seems unstoppable to progress to semifinals and Chile’s veteran squad will not be able to prevent them from securing possible a big win here.
Betting odds
The host is still the clear favorite here with the odds to win at -210. The draw result is at the value of +130, whereas Arturo Vidal and Co are only projected to win at +750
