Preview and Prediction
Borussia Dortmund has been one of the two candidates in Bundesliga which are expected to end Bayern’s domination for years. Yet, their form often turns disappointing along the way, especially during the crucial stages. This season, Dortmund, has already stumbled on spieltag 2. Luckily, such happens to the reigning champions as well. Thus, Lucien Favre’s men need to pick up a win again this weekend when taking on Frieburg to save their current campaign.
Both teams’ latest news
Dortmund was unable to snatch a victory while visiting Augsburg last weekend. In fact, they were beaten 0-2. Felix Udokhai’s header was the opener. Jadon Sancho and Co failed to be on a level terms and conceded again as Daniel Caligiuri doubled the lead at the second half. It was surely an unexpected loss for the visiting side.
Freiburg had a slightly better result on spieltag 2 than their contender. They were held in a 1-1 draw by Wolfsburg while hosting them. Niels Petersen scored an opener through his header but their prospective three points were gone as Josip Brekalo’s strike on a penalty kick deflected the ball into the back of their net.
Lucien Favre’s favorite, 3-4-2-1, might need to be modified. Their previous game showed how such formation has been anticipated by Dortmund’s contenders. The former Nice boss should consider deploying 4-2-3-1 with Erling Haaland as the targetman while Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus, Giovanni Reyna will be operating behind him and both wings. However, Favre is quite concerned with a number of his players ruled out here including Dan Axel-Zagadou, Thorgan Hazard and Marcel Schmelzer.
Meanwhile, Freiburg boss, Christian Streich is quite confident with his 4-2-2-2 relying on Niel Petersen and Lucas Holer as the frontman duo supported by Roland Sallai and Vicenzo Grifo. In his squad only Janik Haberer and Mark Flekken who are on the sideline.
Players to watch
The Norwegian wonder, Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho will be the key man upfront in Dortmund. Yet they both need to improve their finishing to be able to optimise any shots on target and goal. Another notable name to watch is the versatile Julian Brandt who is expected to take more vital role in the team by being more involved in the attack this season.
In Freiburg, the senior striker Niel Petersen is the one they count on too much on scoring. The Hungarian Roland Sallai and Vicenzo Grifo should be more clinical in their finish as well to avoid wasting any decent chances
Dortmund vs Frieburg Prediction
Lucien Favre’s men shall not lose points again here at home after the disappointing result previously. Should they fail to clinch maximum points, the Swiss boss’ future in Signal Iduna Park could be in danger. Luckily, Freiburg’s attacking lines have not been impressive yet so far. Thus, a narrow win is expected for the home side.
Marco Reus and Co are still considered as the favourite in this clash. They are priced to win at 1.28 while Christian Streich’s men’s win market is at 9.80. The draw result is at the value of 6.15
