In the past decade, there is no Bundesliga match as crucial as Der Klassiker, which is on schedule this weekend. This season Die Roeten and Dortmund are involved in a battle for the top of the table again. Both have collected fifteen points in six matches but Bayern certainly has better goal aggregate than Marco Reus and Co. Yet, a victory here would be vital, not only in the future title race, again, but also in the current objective, leading the standings.
The teams’ updated news
Dortmund was visiting Brugge in the midweek for matchday 3 in Champions League. They did not have too much trouble in smashing the host 3-0. Thorgan Hazard’s strike and Erling Haaland’s brace were the ones which made the difference in the game.
Bayern had even more convincing result in their visit to Salzburg. They romped to a 6-2 win over Red Bull Salzburg. Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace plus Jerome Boateng, Leroy Sane, Lucas Hernandez and an own goal from Rasmus Kristensen. The host only replied twice by Margum Berisha and Masaya Okugawa.
Lucien Favre seems to have found consistency in 4-2-3-1 formation after losing against Lazio in the UCL opener. Unfortunately, a number of key figures in the squad are ruled out such as Matts Hummels, Dan Axel-Zagadou, Emre Can and Marcel Schmelzer. With such limited option on the backline, Manuel Akanji and Lukasz Pizcek are the only option left as the centre back. Another possibility is by pulling back Thomas Delaney to play deep. In the midfield, Axel Witsel and Mahmoud Dahoud will operate the area to support Marco Reus as the number ten. On the front, Erling Haaland is the targetman while Jadon Sancho and Giovanni Reyna will be playing on both flanks.
Meanwhile, Hans Flick will always be in favour of his favorite 4-2-3-1 formation. The quartet forward, Thomas Muller, Lewandowski and Leroy Sane plus Serge Gnabry. The only names missing out of this fixture are Alphonse Davies and Leon Goretzka, whose positions have been taken over by both Frenchmen, Lucas Hernandez and Corentin Tolisso.
Players to watch
Dortmund’s main forward, Erling Haaland, has registered nine goals plus two assists so far. He is expected to score in this year’s Der Klasiker after his failure last season. Another vital name to watch is Jadon Sancho.
Bayern’s new wingmen, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry are the new ones to count on this season alongside the senior names. Some other notable men to watch are Corentin Tolisso and Joshua Kimmich.
Dortmund vs Bayern Prediction
The injury of Dortmund’s key men in their defence would surely give advantage to Hans Flick’s men, despite playing away. It will be a tough task for Lucien Favre to find a tactical approach with the available squad to prevent Bayern from picking up another win in Signal Iduna Park. A definite win for the visitors is bound to happen.
Thomas Muller and Co are the clear favourite and backed to win at 4/5 whereas Dortmund’s win market is only at 10/3. The odds for the draw result are at 17/5.
