The title race is still very much ongoing to the end this season. Atletico Madrid’s position on top is not safe yet, with only two points clear from Real Madrid and Barcelona. The one of the fourth, Sevilla, could even sneak to the top as they are only six point different from Los Rojiblancos. This midweek, Diego Simeone’s men will be meeting Real Sociedad at home. Mikel Oyarzabal and Co are still not safe from Villareal’s and Real Betis’s threat below them to secure the Europa League spot. It is definitely an exciting clash of two teams with different objectives.
Both teams’ latest news
Atletico had got past one of their tougest match last weekend while taking on Barcelona on the road. They managed to hold them in a goalless draw after holding on at the midfield throughout the game.
Their counterpart, Real Sociedad, sealed a win against Elche 2-0 on the weekend. Aritz Elustondo and Mikel Oyarzabal scored their winning goal which keeps them on the fifth in the standings.
Possible tactic
Diego Simeone will need more effective tactical approach on the attack. The 3-4-1-2 formation could be well considered. Luis Suarez can be accompanied by Angel Correa upfront and supported by Joao Felix for a freer role as number ten. Luckily, none is currently on the injury table.
Meanwhile, Imanol Alguacil is likely to be deploying a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 formation. Alexander Isak will be upfront while Portu or Adnan Januzaj and Mikel Oyarzabal shall be leading the attack from both wings. Only two names are ruled out for this fixture, Lucas Sangali and Carlos Fernandez.
Players to watch
Expecting Luis Suarez entirely for scoring might not be wise as he has been scoreless lately. The Portuguese youngster Joao Felix is expected to take up the role. He has only contributed 10 goals and three assists in La Liga and Champions League this season. Another key man to watch is Marcos Llorente who has netted 12 goals and provided 10 assists.
In Sociedad, Spanish international Mikel Oyarzabal is one of the top performers with 11 goals and 7 assists. Some other notable figures to watch are Alexander Isak contributing 14 goals and two assists and Mikel Merino.
Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad Prediction
Los Rojiblancos can not miss another opportunity if they want to keep their hope open. They are now the frontrunner of the title race and only three points that count for the title. However, Imanol Alguacil’s men’s chance to pick up a poin in Wanda Metropolitano, especially considering Koke and Co’s lack of consistent goalscrorers recently. Nevertheless, Diego Simeone’s side could still snatch a narrow win here.
Betting Odds
The home side is not exactly the clear favorite here. They are priced to win at 4/6 whereas Sociedad is backed to win at 26/5. The odds for a draw result are at the value of 3/1.
