Preview and Prediction
Atletico Madrid is really flying high this season. The ten-point margin of Barcelona and Madrid shall boost their confidence to finally clinch the La Liga title they last won seven years ago. Yet, the season is still far from over. Thus, Diego Simeone’s men should keep their feet on the ground. This weekend, they will be playing host to Celta Vigo, which is stuck on the mid table.
Both teams’ previous games
Last weekend, Los Rojiblancos crushed Cadiz 4-2 on an away fixture. Luis Suarez bagged a brace followed by Saul Niguez’s and Koke’s goal. The home side could only respond twice by the former Sevilla and Manchester City man, Alvaro Negredo.
Meanwhile, Celta Vigo was held in a goalless draw while travelling to Granada last weekend. Iago Aspas and Co were unable to break the deadlock till the final whistle. Such result extends their winless run in the past six games.
Diego Simeone’s 3-4-2-1 starts to settle in the team’s system. Luis Suarez is still his number one striker, especially since Joao Felix and their new signing, Moussa Dembele are still sidelined due to their injury, alongside Yannick Carrasco and Mario Hermoso. The Uruguayan international shall be supported by Thomas Lemar and Angel Correa behind him.
Eduardo Coudet seems to always be in favour of 4-1-3-2. However, he seriously is in need of modifying his formation to snatch a point against the explosive Los Choconeros. Thus, opting 4-4-1-1 seems more likely. Iago Aspas shall feature the false nine while Santi Mina supporting behind him. In the midfield, Renato Tapia and Fran Beltran will be operating in the middle plus leaving space for Nolito and Brais Mendez or Denis Suarez to play wide.
Players to watch
Apart from the former Barcelona’s striker, Atletico’s next best in the squad are Marcos Llorente who has contributed six goals and five assists, the Portuguese youngster Joao Felix with six goals and four assists and the Argentine Angel Correa.
Celta’s top performers of the season are still Iago Aspas with nine goals and six assists, the Peruvian international Renato Tapia and wing back Hugo Mallo. Another key man to watch is the former Valencia man Santi Mina.
Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Prediction
Koke and Co surely is the favourite in this clash. Playing at home with more convincing form should be daunting for Eduardo Coudet’s men. The visitor has been relying too much on Iago Aspas as well, who is already 34-year old.
The punters are seemingly backing the home side with the odds to win at 7/10, whereas Celta Vigo is priced to win at 23/4. The draw result is at the value of at 11/4.
