The Champions League race in Serie A is practically still very much on after Inter is staying comfortably on the top. This weekend, La Dea is taking on the reigning scudetto winner in the past nine years, Juventus for securing one spot in UCL. Both teams are sitting on the fourth and third respectively separated by one point. They both need the three points as Napoli is lurking behind them and ready to take either of their position when they fail to clinch maximum points. No wonder that this clash is crucial.
Both teams’ previous games
Atalanta sealed their fourth consecutive win last weekend while defeating Fiorentina 3-2 in a dramatic thriller on the road. Duvan Zapata’s brace gave them the lead at the first half but La Viola responded by Dusan Vlahovic’s brace. Their away victory was decided through Josip Illicic’s penalty.
Juventus also secured an easy 3-1 win over Genoa last weekend. Dejan Kulusevski, Alvaro Morata and Weston McKennie scored their winning goal while Genoa only replied once through Gianluca Scamacca.
Gian Gasperini has always been opting for 3-4-2-1 lately instead of 3-4-1-2 after the departure of Papu Gomez. The Colombian Duvan Zapata is likely to lead the attack again with the support of the Ukrainian international Ruslan Malinovsky and either Josip Illicic or Mario Pasalic. The only names on the sideline for this fixture are Matteo Pessina and Hans Hateboer.
Meanwhile, Andrea Pirlo has been confident with his 4-4-2 formation. Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata are still his main choice upfront. On both flanks, the versatile Federico Chiesa and the Swedish youngster Dejan Kulusevski are covering the area. Luckily, there is no one ruled out in the squad except Federico Bernardeschi.
Players to watch
The Colombian Luis Muriel is still the number one in scoring. He has notched up 18 goals and seven assists in Serie A, followed by his countryman teammate, Duvan Zapata netting 13 goals and seven assists too. Another key man to watch this season is the German international wing back Robin Gosens who has scored nine goals and provided five assists.
Apart from CR7, there are at least two figures in Juventus who deserve the spotlight. The Fiorentina loanee, Federico Chiesa who has registered seven goals and assists each in Serie A and the Spanish striker Alvaro Morata who has scored eight goals and nine assists this season.
Atalanta vs Juventus Prediction
The game is bound to be tight and both sides are likely to attempt to score as many as possible. Considering the potential trading decent chances and goals, plus the non-exceptional goalkeepers from both ends, sharing spoils here seems to be the best result.
It is one intriguing clash. Gian Gasperini’s men are backed to win at 6/4. The odds for the draw results are at 27/10, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo and Co’s win market is at 13/7.
