Preview and Prediction
The Villans’ campaign this season has been very impressive. They are the only team which always wins in the first four games by scoring twelve and only conceding twice, both by the reigning Champions, Liverpool. This Friday Jack Grealish and Co will be taking on one of the potential dark horses, Leeds United. It is a clash of two teams who can shake the Premier League 2020/2021.
The teams’ previous games
Aston Villa’s positive trend still endured last week while visiting King Power stadium, Leicester. Their solid defence, their goalie’s convincing form between the sticks plus Ross Barkley’s late goal led them to secure three points on the road.
Meanwhile, Leeds United were down to a 0-1 defeat while playing host to Wolverhampton. It was a tough match which they could not even dominate. In fact, they had to hold the back line most of the team before Raul Jimenez’s strike deflected and found the back of the net.
Dean Smith’s 4-3-3 formation finally can thrive with more advanced squad this season. Jack Grealish is in command of their attack. He will be the wide attacker alongside their new signing, Bernard Traore or Trezeguet to support Ollie Watkins as the targetman. In the midfield, Conor Hourihane, Ross Barkley and John McGinn are the ones who keep the balance of offence and defence. His best starting IX is technically undisturbed as only Wesley and Tom Heaton who are on the sideline.
His counterpart, Marcelo Bielsa will need to improve their finish, which seemed to be their main flaw in the previous game. His 4-1-4-1 formation could be modified to 3-3-1-3 to put more pressure on the Villans’ defence. Patrick Bamford will still be the frontman while Rodrigo Moreno and Helder Costa or their new signing Raphinha will be playing wide as well as more mobile by attempting to cut inside more often. Behind them, there will be Mateusz Klich, who is likely to occupy the supposedly deep-lying playmaker or midfielder centre role in front of Jack Harrison, Robin Koch and Stuart Dallas. Unfortunately, several key men will be ruled out including Kalvin Phillips, Diego Llorente, Adam Forshaw, Gaetano Berardi and Liam Cooper due to their injury.
Players to watch
Their captain, Jack Grealish is definitely the vital figure in the squad along with two other England internationals, Tyron Mings and Ross Barkley. Some other notable ones to watch are the Argentine goal keeper, Emiliano Martinez and Conor Hourihane.
In Leeds, their forward Patrick Bamford is still the key man. He has notched up three goals plus one assists so far. Some other important figures of the team are the former Valencia man, Rodrigo Moreno and the full back Luke Ayling.
Aston Villa vs Leeds Prediction
Playing at their home turf certainly gives Dean Smith’s men the advantage. Their stable form might not cease here since they have had a solid team plus their great additional signings this summer. Not to mention Leeds’ potential crisis on their defence. A win for the home side will put them on the top of the table.
