Premier League this season has been over for The Villans as they cannot climb higher than eleventh in the standings now. This last home game against Chelsea is nothing but a formality and a chance to play their youth teams or players. However, this is a decisive game for Chelsea. The Blues need a win to secure their Champions League place next season. They only have one point gap Liverpool and Leicester below them.
The teams’ previous games
The Villans managed to stun Spurs in the midweek by a 2-1 victory on the road. They made a comeback through Sergio Reguilon’s own goal and Ollie Watkins strike after conceding by Steven Bergwijn first.
Meanwhile, Chelsea managed to avenge their loss in FA Cup final against Leicester City in the midweek. They thumped Brendan Rodgers’ men 2-1 at their home turf. Antonio Rudinger’s tap into the back of the net plus Jorginho’s penalty gave them the two-goal cushion and was only replied once by Kelechi Iheanacho.
Dean Smith looks settled with his 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. However, he is likely to rotate his squad by resting their key men for Euro next month. The likes of Jack Grealish, Anwar El- Ghazi, Tyrone Mings, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn might be sidelined. The attacking line will be led by Bertrand Traore on the right flank accompanied by Ross Barkley as the number ten and Keenan Davis as the frontman. Wesley could be included in the line up too for the 4-4-2 formation.
Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, will have to be careful in picking the names for the line up as Chelsea has two important games in a row this month. Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech shall be deployed in the German boss’ 3-4-2-1 as the attacking midfielder to support Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud. In the midfield, Scottish boy wonder Billy Gilmour could get a nod in the starting XI here accompanied by Mateo Kovacic.
Players to watch
In Aston Villa, the Burkina Faso international Betrand Traore has netted six goals and assists each. Another notable name to watch is the Argentinian goalie Emiliano Martinez, who has been impressive between the sticks this season.
Considering the importance of the game, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz are the ones Tuchel count on to break the deadlock. The former has scored two goals and three assists while the latter has registered four goals and three assists so far. Another vital name to watch here is wing back Marcos Alonso who has only bagged twice this season in EPL.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction
The Blues has more riding in the match which would motivate themselves to win the game against the probable B team from the home side. Chelsea’s reserves team is definitely still more dangerous than Dean Smith’s side. A narrow win for the visitors is more likely.
