Preview and Prediction
The first big match in Serie A is approaching. This weekend AS Roma and the reigning Champions Juventus will be squaring off in Olimpico Stadium, Roma for matchday two of 2020/21 season. Il Giallorossi does not want to waste more games like last season which could jeopardise their own campaign, especially in the match against the high profile team. The positive result here will boost their confidence and winning mentality. However, La Vecchia Signora is definitely not an easy contender to beat. Their newly appointed manager has brought a fresh spirit for their constant domination.
Both teams’ previous matches
Roma began their campaign last weekend not with a positive result against Verona. There was no goal galore but more of a contest of rattling-the-bars or hitting-the-post instead. There were three shots rattling the bars, once from Roma and twice from Verona. Yet, the final score remained goalless.
On the other hand, Juventus had a better form and smashed Sampdoria 3-0 last weekend. Dejan Kulusevski, Leonardo Bonucci and Cristiano Ronaldo opened the account of goals this season. It was a convincing start from Pirlo’s team.
Paulo Fonseca tends to employ 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-2-1. However, playing Mikhitariyan as the false nine seems to be ineffective. Edin Dzeko is still the best option for the targetman or Pedro is more suitable for a false nine role as he is experienced in such position when he was in Barcelona. Behind him, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Carles Perez should earn their spot in the starting IX.
His counterpart, Andrea Pirlo, seems to be in favour of 3-4-1-2. Aaron Ramsey will be given the role Pirlo once had, deep lying playmaker. The Wales international is the key support for Cristano Ronaldo and Dejan Kulusevski or Paulo Dybala.
Players to watch
Since Nico Zaniolo and Javier Pastore are ruled out, Edin Dzeko and Pedro are likely the main figures Roma counts on for scoring. Carles Perez, who excels at acceleration and pace, should be adding more threat on Juventus’ defence line.
In La Vecchia Signora, Cristiano Ronaldo is still the main frontman to score. Yet, his accuracy and speed seems to start degrading. Thus, Paulo Dybala, Dejan Kulusevski and Alvaro Morata will be fighting over one spot at the front. Another notable name to watch here is the former PSG man, Adrien Rabiot.
Roma vs Juventus Prediction
Edin Dzeko and Co need to perform better than the previous game, especially on their finishing touch. Dzeko’s presence in Juventus’ penalty box should be a catalyst to help others to score. Yet, Pirlo’s men defence is still considerably solid despite the absence of Mathhijs de Ligt. Keeping a clean sheet might be tougher her. Thus, either a draw or a narrow win for the visitor is more plausible.
It is surely going to be a tight clash. The home side is projected to win at 3.70. The draw result is at 3.50 whereas Leonardo Bonucci and Co are only backed to win slightly higher at 2.00.
