Preview and Prediction
Inter Milan’s hope to take over the top last week went sideways as they also failed to snatch three points. This weekend, they will have a tougher opponent, their contender on the third, AS Roma, collecting only three points below theirs. It is a crucial match for both as the result could impact their mentality to get through their campaign this season.
The teams’ previous matches
Giallorossi secured their first win in 2021 by thumping Crotone 3-1 on the road. The Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral netted a brace plus Henrikh Mikhitariyan’s penalty. The home side only replied once by Vladimir Golemic.
La Beniamata, on the other hand, suffered their second loss of the season when travelling to Luigi Ferraris. They were unable to snatch even one point against Sampdoria despite their chance. Inter Milan had an early opportunity to take the lead by Alexis Sanchez but his penalty was denied by Emilio Audero. Then, it was Il Samp who scored first by Antonio Cadreva’s penalty. They even extended their lead by Keita Balde. Inter’s consolation goal finally came through Stefan de Vrij’s header.
Paulo Fonseca is very reluctant to employ none but 3-4-2-1. Edin Dzeko is still their main forward supported by Henrikh Miukitariyan and Lorenzo Pellegrini who will take over Pedro’s position due to his injury. Some other names in their injury tables are the goalie Antonio Mirante, Nico Zaniolo, Federico Fazio, Lorenzo Spinazzola and Javier Pastore.
His counterpart, Antonio Conte, will still be sticking to 3-5-2 formation with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku as the twin frontman at the front. The wing backs position will be given to Achraf Hakimi and the former Manchester United man, Matteo Darmian. Several names have to be ruled out here such as Mathias Vecino, Daniel D’Ambrosio and the youngster Andrea Pinamonti.
Players to watch
Roma has been counting on the Bosnian captain Edin Dzeko with seven goals and the former Arsenal and Manchester United man, Henrikh Mikhitariyan who thrives with eight goals and seven assists so far. Another notable name to watch is the French midfielder, Jordan Veretrout.
In Inter, their top performers are surely the duet upfront, the Belgian striker Lukaku with twelve goals and three assists and the Argentine Lautaro Martinez with nine goals and three assists. Another key man to focus on is the former Dortmund full back, Achraf Hakimi who has registered five goals and three assists.
Roma vs Inter Prediction
It will be a tough call to decide which side will prevail in this clash. Both teams might be trading attacks and decent chances. It could be a goal galore here. Thus, a draw seems like a fair result for them.
Despite their last outings, Inter seems to be still regarded as favourite by the punters. Their odds to win are at 7/5, whereas Paulo Fonseca’s men win market is at 59/29. The draw result is at the value of 13/5.
